All right so i've had a very productive summer and earned, from a poor students point of view, quite alot of cash. The Rational Javlar says to save it for a rainy day but the Gamer Javlar thinks about Fallout 3, Fable 2, The Force Unleashed, Storm of War and Black Shark.
You see my current specs in my sig and what im thinking of doing is changing the motherboard, memory, processor and getting a second graphicscard to SLI with my current one. This would also mean that i take the plunge and go from XP to Vista.
Im considering the following hardware:
Motherboard - MSI K9A2 Platinum, AMD 790FX, DDR2, ATX, Socket-AM2+, GBLAN, 4xPCI-Ex(2.0)x16
Processor - AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition Quad-Core 2.5 GHz Boxed, 4MB Cache, Socket AM2+
Memory - 2x Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4DHX DDR2, 4096MB Kit w/two CL4 2GB Dimm's, E.P.P and DHX
Graphicscard - Gigabyte GeForce 8800GTS 512MB GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI/HDCP
So the major changes will be 8GB of faster RAM compared to my previous 2GB. Quad Core instead Twin Core. SLI instead of a single card.
Another small benefit is that I will be able to throw my old mobo, memory and processor into my movies-computer (also in the sig).
So I guess what i want is some feedback on my choices of hardware and if im doing the right thing buying this stuff now, perhaps i should hold a bit and wait for something better? After all it's still a very decent gaming computer but i wasnt very happy about how Crysis performed, that wasnt a big issue for me cause it wasnt a game i was all that hyped about, but those games are coming soonish and for those games i really want a nice ride.
Also my current graphicscard is of a different brand than the ones that are out now (i bought the one i have now almost two years ago) and it has 640MB of RAM compared to the new ones 512MB, is it worth SLI'ing them?
EDIT: Oh and yeah i have this power supply at the moment:
Tagan Easycon 580W, Modular Cables, 120m fan, 4xSATA, ATX/EPS, SLI, 20/24pin
Can it handle a second 8800GTS?

why would you even want a 8800gts ?
get a ATI 4850 or 4870 depending on your budget , both are way faster.

Also, i don't think you can SLI different cards. They have to be exactly the same. And the phenom sucks. All the intel quad cores are better. You can get a q6600 from intel that has more cache and a higher FSB for the same price as the most expensive phenom. But i'd recommend getting a q9450 isntead. That's what i'm getting soon. It costs about 2,300kr from datorbutiken.com, and it's one of the best CPU's out now. It has the highest cache and FSB of any processor right now, and you can overclock it to make it comparable to the more expensive intel CPU's. Oh and a 8800 GTS sucks monkey balls. If you want the best card, wait until the 12th of August. Then you can hopefully get a 4870x2 for less than 4,000kr. But if that's too much, just get the 4870.

Thanks alot for the feedback, exactly what i needed
I will definitely wait with the graphicscard for now, the reason i wanted another 8800GTS is that you actually can use cards that have different brands, clockspeeds and memory as long as they have the same chip but the faster card sets all its timings etc to the slower one. But that'll definitely have to wait then. Perhaphs ill get one of those new 4870's with 1GB RAM.
I havent had an Intel for like.. hmm, 7-8 years probably But hey, this might be the time then
I will look over some options when i get back home from work, thanks alot again

I was an AMD man too Javlar but they just haven't been doing well with their processors. Intel is definitely the way to go.
Obviously the AMD cards are the best, but you should wait until the end of the summer when all the major price drops are done happening.
Get a bigger power supply too...

All right so it's ordered
I have some questions about Vista now though, since im a cheap bastard im not gonna buy it before i try a pirated version and see how that works out. What releases are there and which is worth getting? Also is it possible to do multiple OS's with Vista? As in a bootmenu with XP or Vista, since i play quite a few old games from time to time.

multiple is possible yes.
as for vista, just use some dell OEM disk. It's what I used and not a single issue with it.

^ Yeah, just install XP before Vista if you don't want to play with the Vista Boot Configuration Data. For a release have a look at the -NoPE or BIE- x64 & OEM ones between the "PC App ISOs" section's nfos.

And CF/SLI on P35 is not the best idea as there are no x16-x16 MoBos. And There is realy no need for such unless You play in 1080p.

Actually changed it to a P45 card, but will wait with the SLI'ing anyhow
Hmm, Spykez, can you use the updates and stuff with that? Cause i downloaded Microsoft.Windows.Vista.x64.With.SP1.SWEDiSH-CRBS and thought id try that but afaik you cant use Windows Update etc which sort of bugs me.

You can use Winows Update.
Just grab normal relase such as this one Windows Vista ULTIMATE x86 SP1 Integrated June 2008 OEM DVD-BIE. Windows update works perfectly, and You can use it then to grab swedish language pack.

when I used it, it updated just fine
no cd key, no hey validate your copy! messages, just installed like a normal OS and acted like it without anything out of the odd. the only thing you'll notice about it being an OEM disk is like, 1 page I think it's on the computer ranking feature, it shows the dell logo...but that's it.

Ended up buying the following stuff:
Motherboard - MK Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3PP45/DDR2/LK/2xGBLAN
Memory - 2x Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB CL5, Kit w/two matched CM2X2048-6400 Dimm's
Processor - Intel Core™2 Quad Q9450 2.66GHz Socket LGA775, 1333MHz, 12MB, BOXED m/fläkt
Processor fan - Noctua NH-U12P 120mm
Works very well i have to say, the processor is clocked to 3.220GHz and it keeping a nice 20 degrees at idle and 28 at load.
I'm really liking Vista too, had a few ups and downs in the beginning but most of the downs were due to me anyways.

I have a Gigabyte mobo on my movies-computer (ie my old gaming computer) and it's been working without a problem for like 5 years now And the overclocking seems to work very well with this card, no issues so far when it comes to clocking too high and having freezes, it boots happily and it's easy to remedy in the bios.
Oh and i do actually have that OEM-trial thing going on in Vista, anyone figure out how to stop that, i heard using something called Clean OEM Loader does the trick but however makes it non genuine :s

Oh and while im chatting stuff up i have a weird problem with Firefox where it sometimes just gives a "Couldn't connect"-screen, you know as if you typed the wrong address or if your connection was fucked but then it works instantly after a reload of the page. My connection is solid so it's not that.
