Bugs, stability, game compatibility, performance at times. Back at the day, when I had my 9800Pro, it was basically downloading a driver for the game I play on playing that week. Things have improved now, obviously, but still, not as good as nV. But wait for it, here comes the kicker, the last few nV drivers have been consistently deteriorating, so...
BTW, AMD's control panel's UI FUCKING SUCKS DONKEY BALLZ! Bla!

dont take it as me ranting or freaking out, i asked those questions cause you didnt seem like an nvidia fanboy so i REALLY wanted to know what sort of issues that people encounter when talking about crappy drivers, i still use both and i cant really think of anything worth mentioning besides using second display/TV on nvidia cards.
When i read newegg reviews i wish i could put a big fat stamp on 80% of them saying UNINSTALL PREVIOUS DRIVERS AND INSTALL NEWEST ONE FROM ATI SITE

Sapphire's HD 4870 X2 2GB priced up
Quote: | Available for pre-order, in the Czech Republic
It was due to happen at some stage, but the first Radeon HD 4870 X2 pricing information has made its way online thanks to an online reseller in the Czech Republic who has listed a Sapphire card as available for pre-order.
This is a 2GB card, so it's top of the range and according to the website, the GPU will be clocked at 750MHz with the memory at 3.6GHz. It doesn't look like we're in for any surprises with this first generation card as it looks very much like a pair of HD 4870's stuck onto the same PCB.
Price wise you're looking at €429.50 including VAT which seems quite reasonable considering the specifications of the card. The company doesn't list any expected delivery date, so it's anyone's guess when it'll be in stock. |
SOURCE
€429.50...hm, a sub 400€ price tag would have been more appealing somehow. I guess the price will drop but.
At the mo you can get a Sapphire HD4870 for 209€. 2x209=418€...I know not 100% the same thing, but anyho .

Getting a new rig in two months or so, and the gpu's one of the few parts that I'm still undecided on... I know it's generally a bad idea to get the top-of-the-line card, but the x2 seems like a real keeper.

Well CaptainCox how noticeable are the differences really on the X2 and a possible crossfire setup? Reason im asking is that I gotta assemble a PC for a friend in the coming days and he is getting quite impatient.

For fucks sake! The wait is killing me! I just ordered a gtx 280 for about €400 (a lot cheaper than the €600 it cost a few months ago) and some other stuff. But they don't have all the things in stock yet so the order hasn't shipped, so i can still change/cancel it. But now that i see that the 4870x2 is going to be almost twice as powerful as the gtx 280 i'm REALLY having second thoughts! Plus, it has GDDR5 instead of GDDR3 memory like the gtx280, and it supports dx10.1! So i really think i should wait until the 4870x2 is out. But i have one question though, will it work on my intel based setup, or do i need an AMD cpu?

The 4870X2 *is* out, as long as you go through specific retailers .. and don't worry, it will work on any chipset (even one that doesn't support either Crossfire or SLi) because the X2 boards have onboard Crossfire controllers.
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/08/05/hd-4870x2-sale
The "official" release date is the 12th of August.

Yea its coming alright, but "Geizhals" have taken down that entry .
I will probably wait for a week or 2 after the release (12th) just to see what gonna happen price wise and driver wise.

Personally, I'm glad I got my 4850. It's leaps and bounds above my old 8800GT - which impressed me about as much as a kick in ass would do.
nVidia can fuck off with their constant stream of "new" hardware, every 3-6 months no less, that is really nothing more than a number increase. *I'm looking at you, 9800GT!*

Yeah, fuck nvidia up the ass! They've fucked their consumers for years. I remember a few years ago the best nvidia cards cost about €600. Now the most expensive nvidia card is down to about €400, all because of competition from AMD. That means they could afford to sell it cheaper all this time but didn't because they're a bunch of limp cocks.

Trust me. IT CAN'T!
Show me a single review that states "Tri-SLi" -- and not a pissy little article that says "soon" or "might"
Don't you think nVidia THEMSELVES would have stated Tri-SLi?
Trust me. IT FUCKING CAN'T.

Epsi, do you play other things than Eve? And are you sure four Eves will be able to truly be able to delegate well on the cores and video cards?

Well, that's good, because otherwise it would really be an overkill for anything else (even for Crysis, as it's not optimized to take advantage of all this hardware). Enjoy it, it's going to be a sweet setup!

Here is the site with 4 different cards.
Unfortunately the site don't link directly to the page, but do like this.
http://www.kmelektronik.de/
Navigate to (left side)
"Grafikkarten"
"PCIe ATI 2048mb"
At the moment 2 of those (Club 3D and Powercolor)are available within 3-4 days.
The other 2 (HIS and Sapphire) are expected in 2 weeks.
On one of Germany's bigger E-shop sites "Alternate" the 4870x2 goes for around 474-489€ at the mo.
