Who do you blame here actually? Rolling Eyes

I meant this game is less optimized than the previous one. FlatOut 2 runs smooth on highest settings on my computer, I don't even get that on lowest settings in FlatOut UC. It's playable on medium settings though, where it still look uglier than FlatOut2...

So you want a better looking game to be as optimized as a worse looking on your old PC?

What do you not understand exactly? This game looks worse and runs worse, on my old 7900GTO

Drive over water or one of those stages where shadows are cast, and you'll see the difference. Rolling Eyes

But hey, that's just everyone.

They actually look like "next-gen" games do these days, shiny, blurry and not so great. Quite a few people prefer the old graphics, including me.

The dudes complaining about performance need to realize that they added a lot of shader heavy features. Look at the ground textures (Before the race starts watch the fly by around your car and stare at the road), water, and a lot of the enviornment textures. Not only are all of the higher res but they all use normal maps, not to mention the shadows now. And I think there is heavier use of particles. Also didn't they add more opponents per race?

The game runs as well as it's suppose to. You can't expect things to run flawlessly on hardware that's 3 generations old. Laughing

At 1920x1200 Ultimate Carnage runs as smooth as FO2 on my HD4850.

8800gt here slightly oced, runs fine on 1680x1050; with 4x AA slight lag when lots of drivers on the same spot on dusty roads (especially start and the first 30 secs till things clear up a bit), fine on 2x AA though

already excited about the next lan session with friends Smile

Yup 8.7's. But my card is volt modded and is currently at 800Mhz core so it's a bit faster than a regular 4850.

...on a rubber crutch.

*sigh*

Of course, when it all comes down to it, we all (who believe the game looks graphically better) could quote normal maps and shadows and lighting and bloom statistics all day long, and those who claim it looks shitty will just sit there and fume...so, as much as it pains me say so...let's drop it, eh?

However, for those of you complaining that it RUNS like shit, did you NOT read Krazy Kamel's post a li'l ways back here?

Krazy Kamel said:
"(all those) complaining about performance need to realize that (the devs) added a lot of shader-heavy features."
"...ground textures, water, and...environment textures."
"...all of them higher res, all normal maps; not to mention the shadows now."
"... heavier use of particles and more opponents per race..."

And my FAVORITE part: "The game runs as well as it's supposed to. You can't expect things to run flawlessly on hardware that's 3 generations old."

To which I reply, "A-duh."

Come on y'all - whether or not you'll admit to it looking "better", you cannot deny it looks "different", and therein lies your problem - with all the extra graphical goodies added in, do you REALLY think it's gonna run as well as the original (unretouched), 2-year-old engine on your 2-4 year-old graphics cards?

And let's not forget the "more opponents per race" That means, more A.I. scripting to be crunched by your CPU than last time. Do the math, y'all.

And, not to single you out, mcerikson, but you brought it up: if your launcher does NOT give you anti-aliasing options on your 8800 Ultra, fer Chrissakes...then, son, you've got some fucked-up drivers...or some other (software?) anomaly preventing you from having that choice.

Okay...I'm stepping down off my soapbox now - no stones or rotten fruit, please! At least, not at the face. Very Happy

Thanks again.

Don't complain people -- when a brand new 280 GTX costs a nothing $430 whereas back in late '06 the 8800GTX brand new was 2x that price that shows how things have changed soo far in favour of us all. Hell.. I can build high-end comps now for 1/5th the price what they were in 2001 -- its utterly incredible how all costs have come down and all systems are massively overclockable. Its a buyers market -- retailers are scratching pennies off each component now.

Absolutely ZERO excuse to hardware refresh every 3-4 years now with these prices ESPECIALLY when you are in this fast-paces 3d industry. BUY SMART and OVERCLOCK. If you can't do it yourself, I offer my consulting services. Enuff said. Very Happy

It is funny how 1 year ago for 200$ You could get a low end at most. Now for as much You get pretty much high end(I didn't include dual core mutants).
