Don't tell me I have to press both Crying or Very sad

Generally you just need to press and hold (Don't forget to hold it down, explain in the tutorial message as you start that level.) one of them, I'd use the right shift key myself but I guess both work. Smile

I didn't really use the keyboard much in this title though, played with the second mouse control scheme so most keys aside from movement and weapon selection was via the mouse buttons, made things quite easy.

Ubisoft sues over Assassin's Creed leak

Publisher believes disc replication firm responsible for 700,000 pirated pre-release downloads of its PC action game.

Ubisoft's hit action game Assassin's Creed was released on the PC in April, but in appropriately Altair-like fashion, a pirated version of the game sneaked onto the Internet two months earlier. Obviously unhappy with the leak, the publisher has decided to take the matter to court and make someone pay.

Last month, Ubisoft filed suit against Charlotte, North Carolina-based Optical Experts Manufacturing, the company it had contracted to reproduce copies of the game disc. The publisher alleges that "an extraordinary breach of trust and gross negligence" on the part of OEM allowed one of the company's employees to take a copy of the game home early and post it on the Internet in late February, six weeks before the game arrived in stores.

The publisher alleges that OEM had agreed to abide by--and thereafter ignored--an array of security procedures that could have prevented the leak. Ubisoft further alleges that OEM admitted to not following through on its security commitments and causing the leak. One such security procedure was to prevent copies of the game from ever leaving OEM's premises.

Ubisoft said it tracked the earliest connections to the pirated copy of the game online and found that they were coming from the home of an OEM employee. An OEM-manufactured copy of the game was later found at the employee's residence, though the suit doesn't specify when that copy was found.

According to the industry-tracking NPD Group, the PC edition of the game sold more than 40,000 copies at US retailers through June. Ubisoft claims the leaked edition of the game was downloaded more than 700,000 times, costing the publisher millions of dollars.

In addition to lost sales as a direct result of piracy, the publisher also claimed its reputation was hurt by the leak as well. Ubisoft says it included a bug in the pre-release Assassin's Creed for security reasons that would cause the game to crash partway through. The bug was supposedly removed from the retail edition, but a mix of negative reviews of the leaked and bug-equipped pirated version of the game and legitimate reviews of the retail edition created customer confusion and caused "irreparable harm" to its reputation, Ubisoft said.

Ubisoft is suing OEM for copyright infringement, breach of contract, negligence. It is asking for damages and legal fees relating to all three claims, in the amount of no less than $10 million each for the breach of contract and negligence claims.

They assume everybody would buy it if they couldn't pirate it, which is not the case.

When you download a beta, you see the bugs but are too stupid to realize they're there because it's a beta, and don't like it as a result, causing you not to buy it, those are lost sales.

Yes, exactly my point. One doesn't buy the game (because the beta has bugs) and thinks bad of Ubisoft (don't know why it took him so long to think bad of them Razz), hence not buying future games.

Even if not everybody would have bought it, this is obvious that such an early pirate while bugged release was the worst that could have happened for their sales... Jeez, with the Jerusalem crash temp fixed with the russian files, people had already finished the game weeks before its official release and were bitching about that early build bugs. Also there is no online multiplayer incentive to buy the legal product. In the end I bought that game just for the sake of supporting the devs... Razz

Someone explain this to me, because it simply doesn't make sense:

Quote:

Alright, so:

1. They purposely included the bug for "security reasons" , AKA in case the beta was pirated it would be incomplete and give the bad naughty pirates grief.

2. The beta was pirated just as they had expected, and the included bug caused the evil bad naughty pirates grief JUST AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO.

3. Certain reviews used the leaked version, others used the final build. As a result, people were confused. The evil bad naughty pirates, by their pirating, caused this entire thing.

What kind of warped, mind fucking, backwards ass, French fucking logic is this?
The root CAUSE of the problem was UBISOFT purposefully including the "bug" in the FIRST FUCKING PLACE.

How can they spew backwards ass bullshit like this and be taken seriously anywhere, much less in the court of law.

^ Lol, the "root cause of the problem" was a pirate release far too early, a week before alright but months before it had already made of AC a part of the past at its official release.
I don't think many reviewers used the pirate version to give their advice on the retail product, here it is rather that everyone that was waiting for the game had already plenty of time to download and play -if not finish- a buggy pre-build version, giving such a widespread mixed feeling. "In the court of law" Optical Experts Manufacturing should take an huge one in the ass. Have you something against the french otherwise?
