Its always entertaining to hear from a schmuck who isn't smart enough to realize he is in an iso release forums. Thats like going to McDonalds to tell people how much you hate cheeseburgers. Oh and by the way if you took the time to read alot of people plan to buy the game eventually and are just checking out the releases to tie them over. Myself, I am holding out for the DVD. |
You mean to tell me this is an ISO forum? I always thought I was discussing the strengths and weaknesses of using a sponge versus a washcloth. No, wait, actually I was pointing out that since everyone is having such a hard time, it would be easier, and worth their money, to just buy the game. If you haven't noticed, people are having trouble with the release. Why not just save the trouble, get the retail, and have the ability to play the game with no problems, and all the mods when they come out. Asshat. If the scene released a version that had no problems then I wouldn't be saying this.

from http://www.naoneo.com/hl2/ :
Go into your hl2\cfg\ folder, and create a txt file, inside this text
file, write the following lines.
ai_norebuildgraph "1"
ai_disable "0"
Save, then rename the text file to ai_fix.cfg, right click the file and
set it to read only.
Next, open up valve.rc in notepad, you should see the following
// load the base configuration
//exec default.cfg
// Setup custom controller
exec joystick.cfg
// run a user script file if present
exec autoexec.cfg
//
// stuff command line statements
//
stuffcmds
// display the startup level
startupmenu
under "exec autoexec.cfg", add this line
exec ai_fix.cfg
Save the file and your done!

Well I for one am not going to be forced into buying it because Valve chooses to treat it's legitimate customers as criminals by making them authenticate their installation every time they want to play the goddamned game or/and won't let them play without the CD in the drive. The only peeps who don't get treated like criminals are the leechers. Do console owners get saddled with this crap?
Also, you palpably get a lesser product off of Steam but they charge more for the game than Amazon does. How honest is that? For example, just try selling it second hand when you've done with it or sitting the little virtual box on your shelf to gaze at lovingly ...
Besides, it's spyware and I despise spyware.
What problems anyway? Got no problems here.

Then you have no reason to buy it unless you support valve, which you obviously don't.
I don't enjoy having to authenticate on steam every time I play, but you can't blame a company for wanting to make MONEY on a game that it has worked long and hard for. It's not like this is daikatana, or some crappy ass game.
PS: Explain to me how steam is spyware please.
To sell it when you are done with it would be pretty easy. You give someone your steam account.

If you bought it, then get off of your soapbox and go play it. You have no reason to be in this thread. People are helping each other in solving problems for specific releases. Most issues have been resolved, but everytime someone new comes in the thread instead of reading, they just ask the same questions over and over. This may make it seem like everyone is having a hard time, trust me the release plays fine after a simple patch and cfg edit. You are pretty lame to come into a thread, call people names and pretend how cool you are because you bought the game already when you are in (yes I have to say it again) an ISO release info sites forums. Youre the scmuck that has $50 less in his pocket. Do us all a favor and go to the BBB (Big Black Beautiful) forums and show off how youre a cool skinny white kid. Im sure your opinion will be as welcome there as it is here. Please dont expect any more responses to your lame attitude, especially from me! Take a hike chee-shit.
Knowledge is power, but ignorance is bliss. Which do you choose?

illz55 - I can confirm the AHU release fixes the secondary ammo problem and the aux power bar. Does anyone know how to make it NOT display FPS though??? BTw, I used the loader.exe from the emporio release and that fixed my issues from before.

redfive i know the ahu release fixes those.. but can't someone find out what files fix it and make a patch.. i am not going to download the whole ahu release just for that i already have proper working fine except for those two small bugs.. and it's funny how people are saying "wow ahu fixed the ai and node bugs" when all it is is one line added onto a cfg file...

Welcome, here's some info about HL2 release from AXPI.
Q1: Where can I download it ?
A1: NOT ON NFORCE
Q2: How big is this version ?
A2: 1601 MB (15MB x 112 RAR files)
Q3: How's possible that its so small against Emporio's version ?
A3: Brute compression was used to pack it (WinRAR, max settings, about 3 hours to pack).
Q4: Is this really working ?
A4: Yes, it is.
Q5: Which language is this release ?
A5: English only.
Q6: How can i start it ?
A6: Create a shortcut of hl2.exe on the desktop using the -steam and -console command, eg. "C:\HL2\hl2.exe" -steam -console
Q7: What was used as a source ?
A7: Steam. All graphics & others extracted, edited and compressed.
Q8: Will AXPI release some another stuff ?
A8: Yeah, they are planning to release HL1: Source and Day of Defeat: Source. Also patch to fix some bugs with general Non-steam version of HL2 will come.
Respect to AXPI for releasing this one...
Please notice that I'm not connected with AXPI in any way, these informations were provided by the group itself exclusive for this site. You can contact them on IRC channel.

Yep, this version I liked best and was the easiest to get going and with a little tweaking everything works just fine.
I just added -heapsize 512000 to the .exe, behind the -no steam -console parameters. (half your Ram) Forces the game to use more ram, default is only 64000.
Made an autoexec.cfg text file with the commands below and put it in the HL2\CFG folder, then marked it read only.
ai_norebuildgraph 1
snd_mixahead 0.7
cl_forcepreload 1
sv_forcepreload 1
cl_smooth 0
snd_async_fullyasync 1
These commands fixed the ai disable bug without having to change your clock. Also fixes the stuttering (at least it did for me).
Was getting some of the same texture problems with my Ati X800 and Cat 4.11's that some people have reported with the game. Lowering textures in the game from High to Medium fixed that. Not what I wanted to do with a $400 card, but so be it, until another fix, driver, or suggestion comes along. I think the only other alternative at the moment, is leaving it on High, quick save and quick load in the spots that it happens and it goes away.
I thank all the groups that put the various versions out. Under extenuating circumstances (Steam) WTF were you expecting? They did the best they could. They all worked fine if you did just a little research, and applied yourself, instead of crying about not being able to just burn and play it.

If you had been bothered to read the thread you would have seen this long ago and even multiple times................
And you dont have to write protect the autoexec file. It's purpose is that you shuld be able to add your own commands. So obviously it wont overwite your changes.

Quite a few people have reported this problem on the steampowered forums, and from what I understand there is currently no fix, but Valve is looking into it.

i don't know if this will help any, but add:
r_sse 1 (for all chips)
r_sse2 1 (for intel chips)
r_3dnow 1 (for amd chips)
r_mmx (for all chips)
to your config.cfg file. i have it added to mine, but i don't know if it makes any difference in performance or not.
Killin' n00bs one at a time.
