You mean Kate Ryan?
I hate her. Imo she's a disgrace to my country, although she gets plenty of airtime over here :/

Yes she's the one I meant but didn't want to post her stupid version here. I can live with new versions of old songs like Taylor Dayne singing 'Can't get enough of your love' because she stuck to the same beat and freshened it up a bit. Besides she used to look super hot. Very Happy

Sometimes the new version surpasses the old one (imo) like in the case of 'Every breath you take'. I'm not a fan of rap but I think Diddy did a real good job on his version of the song, even more so considering the context.

But then there's idiots who do a new version and try to put in their own 'artistic' touch to the song. Like those idiots who sing the US national anthem at sports events trying to change some notes or lengthening some words. Rolling Eyes

Here's another example of a bad version of a good song. It's a song called 'Never never gonna give you up'. Don't worry it's not a Rickroll. Wink

It's not a bad effort but compared to the Barry White version, it just doesn't flow. Lisa keeps adding those irritating 'artistic touches' at the wrong places which throws the rhythm off.

It's not about any particular song. My gripe is with people making shitty versions of old classics. Regardless of which music you like, there must have been songs that you loved and some 'artist' went and murdered it with his/her version.

Off-topic - Now that you've insulted the God of Soul, I'm going to have to hunt you down and kill you. Razz It's cool man, tastes in music differ and have to do with a lot of factors like age etc and I bet if we both wrote down a list of 20 of our favourite songs there won't be one common song in there. Wink

^^ Lol, I don't even recognise some of those groups let alone the songs. Anyway here's mine in addition to the songs mentioned above.

A mi manera - Gypsy Kings
La Dona - Gypsy Kings
Wind of Change - Scorpions
Peace in Liberia - Alpha Blondy
Jerusalem - Alpha Blondy
Liberame - Kiara
Nothing else matters - Metallica
November Rain - G&R
Faith - George Michael
A different corner - George Michael
Por el amor de una mujer - Julio Iglesias
Born in the usa - Bruce Springsteen
Local Hero - Bruce Springsteen
Murder she wrote - Chaka Demus
Frozen - Madonna

Not very good at remembering names of songs, jokes, etc but that's all I can remember at the moment plus other songs by those groups/artists.

they defined grunge/rock of the 90's

Alice In Chains alone is probably one of the best grunge/rock bands of all time.
Next is Stone Temple Pilots.

Will check out those two but I've listened to a couple of songs of Nirvana not on that list (Smells like teen spirit) and I really wanted to bash that singer's head in with a club. You know the kind cavemen used to carry with a spike in it. Razz

I don't exclude any genre of music out and as you can see from that list my taste extends over a wide range. But for me to like music I have to be able to make out the words and musical instruments being played. Bands like Nirvana sound like one indistinct cacophony.

I agree with SycoShaman here, only a small portion of all the songs metallica ever made are good.

My favourites are-

Nothing else matters
The call of ktulu
Fade to black
Sanitarium
The unforgiven
Sad but true
And their awesome version of "Ecstasy of gold"

Metallica is just one of those bands. You love em or you hate em. One of the reasons I dislike them is the singer doesnt write the songs, the guitarist does..Lars Ulrich I think his name is.
Either which way, I think metallica is way to over rated. They arent horrible, just not a great band

The first 3 full length albums are ace (Kill em all, Ride the lightning and Master of puppets). Then they went to shit. Sad

Metallica died with Cliff Burton (RIP).

Oh and Lars Ulrich is the obnoxius drummer. Wink Razz
