No, the 4850 heat issue is driver related thanks to the fan.
There's a hotfix out for it last I heard. Hope they get it working since I plan on upgrading to that from my 8800 later this year.
Anyway, I preordered Oblivion, but after they raped their own series I am more than glad to don my pirate outfit.

got an SLI board so an ATI card would mean i wouldnt have the option of running X-fire or SLI. not upgrading my mobo untill the next intel socket. i prefer nvidia cards ne way. the 9800gtx is only about an extra £30-£40 and the benchmarks ive seen basically show both cards are about on par with each other..
and thinking about.. it just seems wrong having an ATI card in an nvidia board..

Dude, why don't you just wait until Far Cry 2 comes out and then buy a GTX260? They're not THAT expensive?

It looks good, but if you ask me, Far Cry, Crysis and Far Cry 2 would benefit immensely from online coop.
It must be so awesome to run around in the jungle (or savannah) with some friends, almost like in operation flashpoint or something and attack camps together and stuff like that...

it would suck since after raiding a village I'd claim it mine and he'd claim it his
and then I'd have to kill him

Too bloody right! Although, to be fair, this is Ubisoft. Not Crytek. Ubi want people to play their games, unlike the bastards at Crytek that mainly do it to brag.

Crytek make me sick. They really do. The sooner that pathetic company files for bankruptcy, the better.
"oh woe is us! Crysis sold so poorly because of piracy!! It's not faaaaaair!"
No, it sold so poorly because no fucker could play it.

Well there will probably be higher res textures on the PC version, doubt that accounts for a 4.5 gig difference though.

You mean, all those idiots that bought retarded 2 years old hardware because ATI told them the new hardware is useless?

I was with ATi for their 9700/9800 cards, but prior to that I was nVidia through and through. I was laughing my ass off at the GeForce-FX series owners while I was playing FarCry on my 9800Pro. Then ATi dropped the ball with their refusal to update to SM3.0. The X800/X850 were stupendously powerful cards (far more powerful in SM2.0 than any competeting nVidia card) but without SM3.0, they just couldn't keep up with the newer games.
Since then I switched over to the 6-series GeForces -- right up to the 8800GT, which I'm happy to say I got rid of pretty damned quick. Traded it for a 360-Elite and then bought a Radeon 4850, which is more powerful than pretty much any other GeForce under the new GTX-260 (and it even competes WITH the GTX-260 on many tests)
Seems every couple of generations we all have to switch over to the competitor, heh. I'll be using Radeon for a while, then no doubt they'll be a new killer card from nVidia in a couple of years and I'll switch back.

I had almost the same route... GF4200 -> 9800Pro -> 6600GT -> 8800GTX -> Probably 4870X2. nVidia are just not that worth the high money price they're asking (like it was with the 8800GTX).

GeForce 3, GeForce 4 TI, 9800pro, 6800gs, 8800gts, 4850
lol
Edit:
Also, Crytek is crap because a month or so after Crysis was released, their head honcho went on some interview talking about a sequel and what they'd change.
He basically said they were improving the graphics.
Really? REALLY?
FFS how about the writing? Or the gameplay? I don't give a shit about fucking graphics since I can't even fucking enjoy it.
