It survives because Mac users are too dumb to use other formats (or even acknowledge they exist, apparently). Apple is pushing this shit as hard as it can. But yeah, MS is the monopoly.
Anyway, well, very short teaser, but (don't shoot me), it looks decent, and could turn out to be good. It's no secret, I'm a fan of Bale, but it's not enough to be a fan of an actor to have a good movie (ie Max Payne ).

.mov sucks only because you suck at using it
either install quicktime alternative and use a proper player (like mediaplayer classic) or vlc or mplayer like the rest of us
you can start whining when you come across a format that forces you to a shitty quality on an even shittier player, like, i dunno, FLASH!?
though, you can retrieve the .flv url at relative ease
but still not less than unpacking a .mov container and repackaging the data into a preferred one

Lol, FLV = H264, so theoretically it can reach great quality. It's great for its purpose, great quality at fast speeds with no extra software. While, MOV trailers are basically H264 in MOV too these days, still extra software is needed.
Matroska pwns all.

errrm.. flash IS extra software
and doesn't allow proper hardware acceleration -> you need a ridiculus monster machine to play them properly full screen, and still the scaling looks shit and you're stuck with the crap interface they made for you
unless you rip the .flv, which ends up with you in the exact same position as with QT; you need third party software like ffdshow/mpc to play it

I always have problems with the shitty quicktime when im trying to view something off a website. If i download it, VLC has never any trouble playing it, but every time i try to watch a trailer off apple site or gametrailers, or anywhere else that uses .mov format, firefox either crashes, doesnt respond, or just says no video. Tried every kind of quicktime like pro or just plain quicktime from apple website, same story everytime. Just now tried watching the new watchmen trailer and firefox crashed as usual.
But anyways on topic. I have high hopes for this movie because of Bale, so far he wasnt in any movie that i hated, and he is a very respected actor who does good to awesome movies. The only movie that was kind of bad, is reign of fire, but after that, they were all good. Josh Brolin should be awesome as terminator, and that bodybuilder looking guy shouldnt be bad either (no acting skill is really required if you play terminator, thats why Arny was so good in it, emotionless killer) since Arny is too old.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.

Christian Bale is the new Tom Cruise. Just a matter of time before he reaches the height of his popularity and descends into douche territory. Don't hate me, I'm just saying that each actor seems to go through the same phase where they're so hugely popular that they're in every movie coming out.
And the producers think that that popularity will be enough to make a hit out of crappy movies. That's when the actor goes and does a really wrong (for him) movie and from there onwards all his attempts to work himself back in the graces of the public only make him look like a bigger flop. Every top actor has had one movie which ushered in the decline of their career. Kevin Costner had Waterworld (although I liked it), Val Kilmer had The Saint and Tom Cruise had Eyes Wide Shut. And George Clooney almost had his Waterloo with Batman and Robin but he managed to distance himself from that debacle very quickly.
On a personal note, I like Bale too but I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before he's convinced that he's invincible and makes the wrong career decision.

Too bad he made equilibrium... one of the most idiotic attempts at a film ever constructed and his by far worst performence.

Tom Cruise may be a nut right now but there was a time when he could do no wrong and people loved him. I'm just saying that over-exposure takes its toll on all actors good or bad. And it's not limited to just actors btw. Everything goes through the same cycle of being a) relatively unknown but good; b) super popular and super good; c) super hated and good/bad. WoW is a good example of that.

Equilibrium is very flawed but it's a good movie. The feel is spot on and the fighting styles put in use give its unique touch. That being said it's clear to see that Kurt Wimmer had only room in him for 1 decent movie. Ultraviolet is just a terrible movie and he's the same kind of director as Roberto Benigni. They have 1 good vision and their talent limits them to keep putting it in all their movies. If that is going to work it has to be pretty damn original

I find this comparison to be just as terrible as Ultraviolet. Maybe if you rephrased your sentence it would sound slightly better.
Benigni is both an actor and a director. He has had one instant classical great movie, yes, but he's also made a few other good ones. So his talent is vastly different from Wimmer. Even if he were only a director and had only directed this movie (La Vita e Bella, naturally), he would still be great.
Kurt Wimmer, what has he had. One "ok" movie, which is not original in any way (plot ripped off, style ripped off, etc). The only really original thing being the fighting. That does make Wimmer one lame ass duck.

I think it's pretty clear what I meant. I would say Roberto Benigni is a better director as well, but if you look at his movies he has pretty much stayed in the same curve most of the time. La Vita e Bella and Tiger and The Snow are pulling on the exact same emotional strings, only in different settings.
The comparison is just fine. Just because they are perhabs on different levels when it comes to talent, doesn't make it incompatible.
