Shouldn't matter too much wether the xbox or the screen does the upscaling (since the screen is 1680x1050 native), and I am counting on the xbox to do it better than the screen.

This has a very similar look and feel to Windows Media Center. Should be a badassed update.
Anyone know if they are finally adding group chat support with the "party mode" thing they've been touting? Group chat is a must in my opinion. How long have PC gamers been able to join a chat with all their buddies? This seems like Xbox's biggest hurdle right now... their matchmaking system. For some games it just sucks. Try getting into the same squad on the same team with more than 1 of your friends in Battlefield Bad Company for example. I hope to god they tackle some of these issues.

Its gotta suck for people who actually payed for dashboard themes. Or maybe those themes can be used on the new dashboard.

I read around and most people hate the new dashboard, some even wrote a letter of complaint to microsoft so now under the influence of this I hate it too  nothing personal microsoft.

There is no way theyl take those letters into consideration. This dashboard was already announced at E3 press conference. No chance of going back at this point.

forget the look, forget the added movies or what not.... its the rip the games to hd that has me puzzled a mass ban perhaps to move the newest hd model that happens to have unmoddable firmware for the drive, call me paranoid but it seems too sweet

Well if you can do all games, there isn't much security other then the copy protection if you don't have the firmware. The problem is leaving the disc in for ownership, can you take it out after you prove you have the game?

Hmm. Installing games on the HD? Does that mean if a friend lends me a game I can install it on my HD and never have to buy it cos its installed on my HD until I remove it?

You can install the game yes, but if you don't have the disk later your screwed because it requires it to be in the drive when you hit A to play the specific game. I don't know if you can take it out after proving you have the game though.

Or maybe it will open a door to hackers and found a mistake MS did and will let us run ISOs from there. I cant wait till they hack the hardware and run all those awsome stuff we can do with the 1st Xbox

1. alot faster loading
2. silence - the DVD will probably just speed up once and be silent for the rest of the game

I can already see Microbastards charging for characters like they charge now for game pictures and themes, who the hell charges for themes I can find a million free themes for the pc and they look 10x better.

The new interface itself: no. The interface has nothing to do with the copy protection.
The update as a whole: possible. Every update can alter the copy detection if Microsoft finds a vulnurability in the modded firmware, but this is not related to the new interface.

what microsoft will flash your xbox over the net? There is no way a dashboard update can screw with you modded xbox firmware.

As already written a few times you will need the original (or pirated) game DVD iin your DVD drive to run a game from the harddrive. They will use the same copy protection as until now.
But they may update the protection IF THEY HAPPEN TO FIND A VULNURABILITY IN IXTREME which is unlikely though. This can happen with any update and is not related to the new interface and the game install feature.
There may be a new banning wave BUT THERE IN NO PROOF YET so don't spread paranoia. Just don't apply the update until you hear something from the hackers. The iXtreme group will sure run some tests to see if the consoles DVD checks were changed and report.
