Mines full time, has been for months, and will be for (if im lucky, years)
I'm done my shift in about 45 minutes. My night consisted of:
Watching Talledega Nights
Playing a few games of Dota
Finishing the Second Season of Arrested Development
Talking on MSN with some friends
Webcamming with a girl I'm interested in
Eating Roast Beef with Mashed Potatoes
Taking 3 Tylenol 3's (I'm not sure I'm okay to drive home)
About an hour of actual work (call center, no calls)
Doing some reading, and writing
Napping for about an hour

I just starting working today actually with my father at the factory that makes bottle caps for medicines... and its pretty boring
you wait till machine fills up box with them...put them out on table and check if there are any defective but there are like 500 on the table..good luck with that
then there is hole in the table that you put box underneath and just throw them there
you have to wait 5-6 minutes before box fills up for maximum 2 minute of work...cant get more boring then that. but we also have 2x 30 minutes break and an hour and 15 minutes of nap time
...we actually take empty box break it and just put it on floor and sleep on it
pretty wicked stuff

Night shift is pretty awesome, who am I kidding.
We're about to move into a new building with TVs and consoles, and satellite for overnights.

I worked two years ago in shifts, 8 h: one week from 10 PM - 6 AM, other 2 PM - 10 PM, and third week from 6 AM to 2 PM, and so in cycles... It sucked big time.
I'm glad it was only for the summer. On top of it all, it was about making ice creams, so all ice creams were free to eat. I didn't get any weight but it crippled my condition.
Before I could run 4x400 m without any stress, and afterwards I barely ran 400 m. Plus it totally messed up my everyday routine... Never going back there again (although it was a decent pay)...

During the season machines are working 24/7. I remember one girl worked there for 3 years, she said that during the season (from March until September) they don't have any day off. usually you don't work for one day (usually Sunday), but if the demands are high there are people working even on Sunday. It's because this factory makes ice creams for Serbia, Hungary, Bosnia... It's hard work, but they stuff you with ice cream so you are happy

Yea, Syco, I usually have some tunes blasted. Even with a girl in my life right now, because I only work 3x12 hours a week, I have 4 days off so I get to spend a lot of time with her even on nights.
As for school - as you can see, I'm not too busy at work, I'll be spending many hours nightly studying/doing homework !

the fact that we have to pay so much of post-secondary education out of our own pockets here in Canada pretty much puts us on par with 3rd world countries.
for me 60K in debt (for a BSc + MSc) and I will work in public service (where I want to work) probably for most of my life.

60k of debt is a lot.... Did you not work through school? Is that 10 years of schooling that you had there? (I honestly have no idea)
For me I plan on working (as I said) and have roughly 20-40k after school is done in savings....

Ya, we're pretty close to one of the best countries in the world, but we're no norway !
There will always be civil unrest in some people, especially in a country with millions of people. Unfortunately you can't please everyone all the time.
