yea, it's fucked up that you actually have to think before running into a firefight
nah I'm just not so into simulations , I played flashpoint it was good atleast you see the enemy and shoot him
first lever I didn't even know where the bullets came from my men dropped like flies and then bam I die
I'm not saying it sucks , I just didn't get into it much , had to remove it to install another big game since it was low priority
i can agree in that it's really hard to get into when you've been playing 'normal' games for a while
it's such a different mode of playing - always having to cover your back
but the reward of keeping on it is well worth it
so people, i am very curios about something regarding this game. i saw a mod (thats how i learned about this game) and in that mod the player (in the video) was able to see the game as a FPS or see it as a RTS game. from what i saw he was able to build while in rts mode and fight in fps mode. is it this way or not ?
because to be honest, from what i saw, i kinda liked it.
well the singleplayer campaign is actually really bad compared to OFP.
Indeed. OFP defined amazing single player experience from me. Breaking out of POW camp and using stars to navigate in order to find evac point. Or escaping avoiding search parties during night in order to get to EVAC, totally outnumbered.

Yeah! that mission was the best moment in my gaming experience.
so this game is only a fps. i though i was both fps and rts (at least that is what i understood from that mod video i saw). looks pretty interesting. maybe i'll give it a shot. i also liked OPF1 . anyway, 10x for the info

Thats the warfare map/mode that came out with latest patch. You earn money by completing objectives, killing enemy, capturing towns etc etc, someone is commander to build base etc, soldiers can build defenses ( mg nests, AT, AA, bunkers etc) buy ai troops and vehicles etc. Is damn ggod fun.
I just saw this thread, and started googling for a proper release of the game, but it's good that I searched my HDD, cause it turned out I do have the vitality release (1.04), so installing the game now
I'm gonna be playing the SP levels only, do I need 1.05-1.14 patches?
------------------
Edit:
I have a couple of questions about this game: ( without having to go through 90 pages).
The game runs completely choppy on my rig if I play it on anything higher that 800X600 mid/low for some reason. I don't give a damn about PQ if game play is top notch, which this game seems to offer, but shouldn't my system be able to run it on high? A problem with the game or my system? Never had this problem running games like Assassins Creed, Mass Effect... ect

Absolutely. Major optimizations, to say one of the impovements.

Patches should improve framerate quite a bit.

How do I spot Enemies? lol I can't seem to spot any enemy, I see shots flying but no E's from where the shots are coming from!!
Look closer. This is a simulator so to speak. There is no fancy "HERE I AM SHOOT ME" style hud. If you can't see them, they concealed themselves effectively. How to counter it? Stick to the bushes, observe terrain before advancing, etc.
Will also try this game out (doing my Cold War/Red Storm Rising thing at the mo) Getting the Vitality release, my question is, what version is that?.
International or?. Only asking cause of the patches.

+200h
OFP blows ArmAshit out of the sky. I had installed ArmAshit, got disappointed with the gruesomely boring graphics and shitty performance (!!!) then that first mission frustrated me so much I got rid of it like a pregnant gf.
Try it again, they have really done alot of changes with their patches, definitely a whole new experience compared to the buggy pos we had back at releasedate.

Somehow Bohemia games have lots of potential and are insteresting to poke around, but when it comes to actual gameplay, it's epic fail. AI is borked, interface is unfriendly (try to drop something that in the middle of your abstract inventory), and most of the time you're facing rather unlikely odds. The game is about an army, but somehow you have to do all the heroics yourself, it's like Call of Duty reversed, instead of making you feel a small part of something big, you HAVE to do a work for everyone else around you, without your efforts pretty much single machine gun will wipe out all your friendlies.
Just an example, ArmA, one of the missions when you have to blunt enemy armor spearhead, by blowing up the bridges after first waves crosses them, then fall back towards friendly forces, who are blocking the further passage of enemy tanks and have pretty good position to do so - wide open plateu with fortifications and battery of heavy guns deployed and ready to take on them tanks. Except designers placed the guns that way, so they can't lower their barrles to a level where they can shoot enemy tanks properly (I manned one of the guns and discovered that the hard way) -_- So by the time I got there, almost everyone was dead and enemy tanks were roaming around looking for last few survivors. I ran off to the woods, and then mission ended. Successfully.
And in every mission you can get some fucked up variation of this scenario. Provided your initial deployment transport doesn't gets stuck in buildings or terrain features or something like that
So, I tried that expansion about mercs, I figured out they're supposed to be some kind of hardcore badass vets, and then, in the very first mission, all of them, but me, got wiped out by 2 random guys with AK's. I never tried to play it again. Ever.
I must say I am still struggling hard to learn all the key mappings here
So far I really like it, feels like a "real" combat sim. I guess one could say it's a sort a successor to the original Ghost Recon, but maybe x10 due to the complexity of the way one gives commands.
It's like only game where you can turn your head into one direction, turn your body into another and keep running in third. Does it actually helps? No, but you can do it -_-

You should definitely try to engage yourself into the editor, alot of potential and still keeps the ARMA experience fresh. Like you can, in a matter of seconds, create a large scale assault on a enemy held town. Now copy-paste alittle and you have a Waterloo reenactment in your hands with death and explosions around you.
If you get really hooked by playing the SP that you decide to buy the game, get yourself into a COOP clan. It really makes the game 100x more fun. I joined one and have never looked back at solo online coop.
As Mutantius said, check out the mission editor. Its incredibly powerful and it does keep the game fresh. Also there are tons of mods and addons for the game.
