I'm enjoying this game although a bit repetitive. I've played DW 4 hyper on the pc before. I must say this game is harder... on the hardest difficulty when fighting 4 or more generals (even more so when someone like lubu is one of them) If they hit me they will juggle me around and won't even allow me to hit the ground. Just the way I like it HARD Smile

Seems the PC version of this title was a success for KOEI and now they will bring a few other titles over. Smile
(Romance of the three kingdoms XI, hope that's not a "11" because it's usually problematic to jump right into a serie unless it's very stand-alone like for example Final Fantasy.)

That's a 11 and these are some great news, I loved the first KOEI strategy games.

They are also bringing Samurai Warriors 2 to the pc.

KOEI today announced the release of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI and Samurai Warriors 2 on PC. Following on from the release of Warriors Orochi on PC earlier this year KOEI continues to bolster its PC line up with some in depth strategy from the award winning Romance of the Three Kingdoms series and spectacular battlefield action from the multi-million selling Warriors series. Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI will be available to buy on July 25, 2008, and Samurai Warriors 2 will be available to buy on June 27, 2008.

KOEI will also port over "Dynasty Warriors 6" - nice to see a somewhat updated engine for "Next Generation" systems as the PS2 versions previously ported are a bit dated graphically.

This is a good news for me as I love Koei but have missed out on almost all of their recent work as I don't own any consoles from PS2 and up. I remember the countless night I stayed up playing RotK 4 on the SNES and then only to buy it on the Playstation to play it for a few more years.

Reloaded appears to have released Samurai Warriors 2. Smile
(We might need threads for these titles instead of clumping them together. )

EDIT: NFO file.
http://www.nfohump.com/index.php?switchto=nfos&menu=quicknav&item=viewnfo&id=124537

EDIT: They should really scrap the b-grade english voice acting and just go with the original audio with subtitles, would fit better, especially due to how bad the english voices are.

EDIT: Oh and there's close to a hundred movie files but ME72, ME73 and ME74 seems to be the logo movies and can be deleted to skip them from playing. Smile

EDIT: Game is pretty similar to the others and the only visual adjustments available is the resolution.

EDIT: 2 player splitscreen play appears to be available albeit there's no actual multiplayer.

EDIT:

(Different units and slightly altered gameplay but the game is more or less similar to the previous ones.)

(One of many battles.)

(One of many characters, she seems a bit silly at first but is quite strong.)

(Another character this one is the final "boss" of this stage.)

(Victory, though the game can be quite tough at times.)

Visually it's a bit dated but it's a PS2 game so that's expected and it's quite fun just going trough a ton of soldiers one battle after another.
(There's a few different characters to play as and I guess more can be unlocked, some different gameplay modes as well but it doesn't seem to have that many stages.)

I think I am going to skip SW. I never played any of their games unless you count Orochi as one and I just didn't connect with them as well as the Romance characters.

So what game would you guys recommend: this or Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper or Samurai Warriors 2? I am in a mood for these type of games. Smile

Warriors Orochi has the most characters and even a few settings aside from just resolution but it mixes several different factions together against a fantasy demon guy (Orochi).

Dynasty Warriors uses characters from what I guess is the "Romance of the three kingdoms" novel and seems to be set in China whereas Samurai Warriors is set in Japan in a more modern period. (Rifles instead of just bows and such stuff.)

Other than that they are pretty similar in style and gameplay.

Hope Koei manage to do a good port of the X360 title Dynasty Warriors 6 as the PS2 (Which these titles are from.) is a bit dated by now. Smile
(The games are still fun ofcourse.)

EDIT: SW2 also has quite a few characters (Only a few initially with more being unlocked later on as you progress.) but there's only five stages per character together with a store in which you buy guards, horses, skills and upgrade your weapon and a final bonus stage once you beat the story for that character.
(Max level seems to be 99 but you'll have to kill everyone multiple times to get to that level but thankfully there's a fair amount of different gameplay modes such as story, freeplay a castle of sorts and even a dice based board game.)

I can play it just fine at a 1280x960 resolution albeit as I run it in windowed mode so I don't know how the fullscreen resolutions works. Smile
(Monitor is a 22" Samsung 226CW with a native resolution of 1680x1050)

EDIT: Tried fullscreen mode, 1280x960 seems to be the highest resolution. Sad
(Found some other options as well but everything was already set as high as possible aside from AA as it can't be used in windowed mode.)

Japanese demo of Dynasty Warriors 6. Smile

EDIT: Good thing I understand a few basic words of Japanese or rather the menu layout for all these titles as it hasn't changed.

Unsure why it's called "5" though in the title (Japanese name instead of English btw, Shin something.)

Same style and gameplay as the previous games no real changes and here's some screens showing the new visuals. Smile

EDIT: Game is very smooth and has high framerate but the damn pop-in stuff from the console versions (Several titles actually.) is also present and the view distance for characters is extremely short due to this.
(I ran to a empty spot near a gate only to have enemies appear when I was right next to them - visuals are at max as well.)

EDIT: This is shown in the last screen by the way, you can see the three enemy commanders near the gate but not any of the many troops stationed with them.

Romance XI will no doubt play allot quicker and easier on a PC. I freaking hate using gamepads for turned based strategy games.
