I recently got a Samsung 215TW 22" wide screen LCD. Before that i had a 17" CRT. Now what i've noticed is that this monitor has some really noticable mouse lag. Whenever you move the mouse, it feels sluggish. It's like there's a slight delay when you move it. This was not present on my CRT. On my CRT mouse movement was instantaneous and extremely fast and responsive. I've also noticed that there is a lot of blurring in certain areas of the monitor. It's like there are horizontal "stripes" that cover the monitor, and anything inside them gets slightly blurred. I've also noticed extreme picelation in the windows GUI and desktop icons and other graphics, even at the max resolution. None of this was on my CRT. Now i've read that this is normal for LCD's. So my question is, what's the fucking point of an LCD then!? It's blurry, pixelated, and the fucking mouse lags like shit. I also use a dual link digital DVI cable, which supposedly provides the best quality, so it's not that. The only thing that's better is that it's flat and takes up less space. But who gives a shit about that when it looks like shit compared to a CRT? Or is it just my LCD that sucks? Should i sell it and get another one, or go back to my CRT? Is this a problem with all LCD's? Or are there ones that don't suffer from this problem?

do you use a DVI to DVI cable ?

do you use the native resolution ? this means that there is a 1:1 dot ratio with the screen

The more pixelated impression is indeed cause of the LCD , on a CRT the rectangle pixels are always rounded cause of how CRTs dots are made up.

about the mouse cursor im not sure... do you use 60hz as refreshrate? i didnt think ghosting was that bad with new LCDs

Im sticking with my 19 inch CRT for another few years Smile

Yes i use a DVI to DVI cable. And refresh rate doesn't matter. Even if i set it to the max it still lags. Fucking piece of shit. CRT is infinitely better than this shit. Good thing i got it fro free from my brother. I think i'll sell it and stick with my CRT.

I'm not sure if it has to do with your vidcard, or some setting... maybe something is wrong with your monitor.
It is said that the 215TW ain't optimal for Gaming but the problems you describe can't be good.
Though you might want to check if there is visible changes when enabling/disabling ClearType setting. Worth a try.

But I myself have the:

Samsung Syncmaster 226BW
22", 2ms, 3000:1, Black

And it beats the hell out of any CRT I had, it's damn sharp and no blur/ghosting/slow mouse whatever problem.

When you buy cheap Samsung you usually buy: Syncmaster 226BW (some say the best gaming LCD); Samsung SM2232BW (has great reviews, can be tweaked to give great performance); Samsung SM2253BW (it's actually in the price range, seems to be good)... If you want very good picture quality you have to give out more money...(S-IPS panels cost like hell)

Same LCD here.... my good old 19'' Benq fried the CCL's after a power surge.

It's great, and i've had none of the problems described.

if your lcd is blurry, it's either ran through with an analog signal, which is entirely your fault, or your videocard is messing it up
lcds are by design pixelperfect in that each is individually drawn - it's a technical impossibility for it to be blurry if the input is correct
also, if you use a non-native resolution it is again your fault that the image is imprecise

lcds DO produce a lagging image and inferior color reproduction
there's no way around that
the colors have come a long way though and are pretty darn good these days
with some displays the lag is longer than others
to prove/measure this, run an lcd and a crt side by side, in clone mode, with some low-spec high performing game running and snap a picture
or a fast running number counter

Test the monitor on another comp, and if its fine, then your video card is messing things up. And if its still bad, replace the monitor.

Yup...do what last reply said. Test monitor on another pc. I bet its the lcd.. I bought a cheap V7 LCD 22'' for like $175 and it is simply amazing. Will never buy another crt ever again. I did have to change native resolution to 1680x1050 to get a best picture.

Bigger screens are notorious for mouse lag and I have a 24' BenQ and it wonderful.

Something on your end is causing those problems.

with some monitors it helps disabling the overdrive feature to get rid of the mouse lag. Dunno about your monitor though...

Yes, 1920x1200. I think it's great. Well, as all TN panels (those are the ones without the input lag), there is slight color banding, but meh, it's barely noticeable. It's a very good monitor.

I found it takes some getting used to LCD's if you just jump from a high quality CRT to a low/mid range quality LCD. I remember I went through the same "OMG WTF" period (I posted it on this forum as well in fact) but you do get used to it eventually.

Never had to make the jump!
