Okay I've just flashed a Samsung MS28 with ixtreme 1.4
I also put in a new laser. It reads originals with what seems like a struggle. But I get either dirty or unrecognised disk. Another thing is that the laser rail seemed kind of dry. I've never heard of anyone having to put lubricant onto the rails before but might it help? If I do put lubricant on would knitting machine oil do?

Mmm! I nearly forgot, could these symptoms be down to me not clearing the anti static point properly? I'm sure I did, but hey you never know.

Not a good answer to your question, but do you get that error with all discs? If burned games, do you use Verbatim?

It reads originals but it seems like it's struggling. A friend is dropping off some disks he's burned to test them.

Strange... sounds like there is something wrong with the laser (you just bought from ebay?). I guess you have read guides how to replace it properly? A reflash could be in order... with different flash speed maybe. Iv heard people have been struggeling with some copys after reflashing to iXtreme 1.4 :\

Maybe. I'm thinking of getting a complete new drive.

Yeh it could be the drive needs replacing so you might as well clean the lens and/or tweak the pot before ordering in case you can get some more life out of it.

Buff the lens with a spectacles cleaning cloth and turn the pot clockwise a micro smidge and if you have no joy replace the drive as you suspected, theres nothing to lose.

1. Media
2. Write Speed
3. Reflash

The others already came up with the idea of the laser so i won't include that.

Get a BenQ, some people have problems with Samsung. It's picky for a reason, Verbatim usually works though. It took me five minutes to open my Xbox and flash the BenQ drive, it reads everything. Even the cheapest media I could find, Arita (25pieces for €15), works without a hitch.

It was the laser. Even though it was brand new it was faulty. I got another laser this morning and it's working fine now.

Thanks for the help.

it could have been a faulty laser, but sometimes it just isnt calibrated right did you use a miltimeter to read the dvd pot? when i got a replacement laser at stock it was too weak to read the disk i did a simple 10 minute adjustment to set the pot within an acceptable range

Every laser I've bought direct from China has been set perfectly. 2.81 and they read anything in a Hitachi drive. All the ones I've bought in the UK have had to be returned.

It's not too bad though. I mean they're cheaper from China anyway, just such a long wait.
