This of all games should definitly be boughten. There are very few companys out there right now that will put the time into making a product such as Half-Life 2. They wanted it to be the best video game ever created, and they have succeeded in my opinion. The 6 year wait for Valve to make sure the game was perfect was definitly worth it. People can bitch all they want and get nit picky, but please understand what these guys had to go through. Buy the game and support the unbelievable job Gabe and his staff has done.
Now, bitch at Vivendi all you want. I was pretty disapointed when I saw the publishing. I opened the box and saw their cheap paper cases, no manual of any sort, other than one peice of paper that was a useless "quick reference". and a cardboard insert to attemp to protect the CD's. I was looking all over for the CD-Key only to see it was on the back of one of their crappy paper CD cases.

or are the cracks only applicable to emporio's release?
thans in advance |
I'd like to know too. I'm acquiring a DVD clone and would rather use that with some sort of "anti-steam" crack than have to jack with the preload files or whatever is in the EMPORiO release.
If no one else knows, I'll let you know tomorrow when I try it. By the way, those of you that have the EMPORiO deal...you don't have to actually create a steam account or anything with it do you? I want to be completely steam-free! I hate that shit and all that it stands for!

Well, 2.1 MB/sec = about ~200 KB/sec (edit: 2.1 megabits/sec = about 200 kilobytes/sec)

i´m glad that i got my hands on a voucher for 20 bucks from ebay 2 month ago. a good friend of mine bought the dvd-version yesterday and he was unable to make a backup from it since it´s securom New V5x protected....beeeh- I think hl2 is best if you dl it by steam. My friend needed over one hour to complete registration and download the missing files from steam. Btw, where´s the original hl2 thread?!? has it yet been closed?!?

Damn, can't wait to get my hands on this one, hearing all great comments!
But my girlfriend ordered me the Collectors Edition (isn't she great!), so I guess I'll wait.
My PSU is damaged anyways, so now I have to use my old 300W again, which won't be enough for a 6800GT (is replaced with 9500pro now).
Really tempted to dl it though. Anyone playing it with a 9500PRO that can tell me what the performance is like?

Well, I think of all the games EVER made, this is the one that absolutely NO ONE should buy!
1. It forces steam on you and I don't want it.
2. It requires online activation to even function at all, which means a few years (maybe only months, who knows) it will never work again because there will be no steam server to connect to.
3. If steam fails, your game fails. Fuck that! |

1. There will be no-steam proper patch. There is one already
2. Same as above.
3. If there is a patch, who needs the server?

I actually have trouble applying that patch. It sais: "Cracking aborted" and when i start the Emporio release i still get the "Lost connection to Steam" error.

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on disk somewhere...

I would like ask you all out there 2 questions:
Does emporio works?
If so, is the singleplayer the same as retail version, so are the bugs in emporio, which they aren't in retail

Emporio Version + Apes DLL patch (not the repack)
Works fine for me here.
Missing Textures my arse, it looks and plays great.

Bugs I've found with Half-life 2 - Emporio + apes crackfix:
* AI and scripts bugging out between mapchanges, even after ai disable is set to 0.
* Errors while trying to change some configuration settings, even after removing the write protection of these files.
These two alone was enough for me, I'm waiting for proper or I might just buy the game.
