|
 |
for the last 2 days ive bin trying to install vista on my pc from a clean install and it was going to take above 5 hours to install it gets to expanding files and stays there only going up slightly ,it go to 65% expanding files and i couldnt wait anylonger so i quit the instalation and so put xp back on.
ive tried various things like updating to latest bios
memory timings in bios
disable all ide in bios as all my drives inc dvd writer are sata
and still the same takes ages to install
i know the vists disk is ok as i tried the instalation on daughters pc which is at the side of mine and installed within an hour.
i have a amd dual core 6000+ proc on a abit an52 motherboard with 2 gig ram
2 sata hds
1 sata pioneer dvd writer
daughters specs are amd dual core 4000+ proc 2 gig ram and all drives are ide

You could try to unplug the hard drive that won't be used for your OS setup, that may speeds up the thing a bit.

thanks for your reply but i dont think unplugging the drive that im not installing to will help but i will try anyways.
i have read on net somewhere that if u have unalocated space on drive that vista will try to wright to it and that could slow installation down, but over 5 hours to install an os
the other thing i was wondering was if i took the sata dvd writer out and used an ide one to install vista
funny realy that i wasnt looking forward to using vista but i knew i would have to at some point and i get this problem lol can only happen to me

yep thinking the same thing stick with xp
was hoping to try some direct x 10 games as my graphics card supports it
and a week ago i had to sort someones pc out and he had vista on it , i couldnt find my way around it at first but did in the end thats why i wanted to try vista out and hopefully getting hyperos 2008 soon so i can have best of both worlds xp and vista but need to sort this problem out

u can always mount vista image in xp and install through it
use any virtual device app and see if it's hw or sw related

for now DX10 graphics arent worth the big hit in performance from vista and DX10 itself.
Specially since the "only" big DX10 game Crysis actually lets you enable the "dx10" stuff under XP through inis

The Video Renderer in Vista is actually better though. EVR is its name and the xp implimentation isnt supposed to be as good.

right got it sorted it was the (pioneer dvd rw dvr 215 sata drive)
it installs xp flawlessly but vists nope
so i put ide dvd reader in pc and installed vista quicker than installing xp
so i need to now know why theres trouble with sata dvd wr so gonna google it lol
also i updated the firmware on the pioneer drive and that didnt sort the problem out..
also after i installed vista the pioneer drive locks up most of the time when reading disks and i know theres no fault with the drive as it works fine under xp
