yo!

I got an 8800 GT about 2 months ago or something, and ever since installing it my PC seems to have a problem with shutting down.

Windows shuts down fine, screen goes black, everything is fine, then my HDDs power down but the fans keep running, almost like it goes into standby.

I have to manually hold the power button down for a few seconds for the PC to fully shut down.

I read somewhere that this might be connected to wrong bios ACPI settings or something, but everythings good there.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Well since you said you checked your BIOS settings lets do some things:

Hopefully you are shutting the PC down manually (start, shut down, etc.)

It could be your PSU, but try this...... look into your device manager, and look at your keyboard, and then your mouse afterwords..... go to properties, then "Power Management", and make sure, "use this device to resume from standby", is NOT checked...

if all is good, report back on what power settings you comp has in "Power Options" in your Control Panel.

But this is just a hunch, your PSU is most likely to blame...

I have a similar problem - i can't put my PC to sleep.

The screen goes black, and windows shuts down, but the 8800GT and CPU fan keeps spinning..

Shutting the PC down works fine though Confused

Sin, try doing what I mentioned in the device manager. Also try changing your power management scheme in your power options in the control panel.

Viper, I tried changing the keyboard and mouse settings you mentioned, but it didn't help.

I'm using the default High Performance power management plan but didn't change it ever since installing windows, so it can't really be the cause of the problem.
