whats crossfireX where you can mix the different models of cards? ie 4850 and 4870 ?
normal crossfire is 4850/4850 and can be done on xp still?
i guess most people that buy one of the newer nvidia/ati cards will go with vista for dx10 anyway though so is it really that bad a decision?

well, i was looking for an upgrade path, where i can use a micro-atx board now, that i can use later for another pc, where only micro-atx fits, and the am+ plattform with an integrated hd3200 looks great in theory. If i need vista for a media-pc though, it sounds much less enticing.
It may make sense for amd to reduce r&d costs, but for me as a customer, the less choice i have in operating system, the less it makes sense for me (and i m not even going to say linux here. Oh well i just did ).

that sounds useful for dual-display HTPC's!

exactly! The am2+ board i was looking at has an onboard hd3200 which seems to be highly overclockable also, so it would make even more sense for me to buy it. But if i m bound to vista for a htpc, its really not that great.
a friend of mine wants to sell me his old e6600 and an abit ab9, so i m tempted to go the intel route anyways...

well if its for a media PC , i would just get a single HD2400 and use that for your video output along with windows XP.
hybridcrossfire is more for 3d apps and games , but still really really slow.
If you are building yourself a new PC on µATX based mobo, and want to use those parts for your media PC later on but dont want to spend too much money i advice getting a 2600XT like i did for my brother, i saw it on geizhalz now for 60 euros , 512MB DDR3 version, plays all the games we play on high settings , 4AF/no AA without a hickup.
Plan is once i replace my 3870 with a 4870 he gets my 3870 and we will use his 2600xt for a HTPC.
This could be applied to you too as 2600xt wont drop much more in price and wont resell for alot either, also the 2400pro even though its 40 euros cheaper wont play games at all.
I wouldnt say the 2600xt would be overkill for a HTPC.
But i dont know what your exact plans are or what you plan to spend on it.

nope, i d love to use the onboard hd 3200 later on for the media pc and get myself an gf8800 now, so i can upgrade mobo and cpu to something better inbetween and switch the µATX-board to the apple-case i have modded some time ago. But well, i ll see what my friend wants for the e6600 and stuff and decide then, which path to go... ...thanx for the tips though, i ll keep that in mind, if i change my plans

Q6600 dropped alot in price , so be sure you still get a good deal.
Also you might want to check into the 4850, going for 189 euros , equals the performance of the 9800gtx
