Yeah, until you go online with Xbox Live.

Well at the 2nd level, so far it has been filled with mediocre content; the graphics reminds me of the PS2 (the textures are just plain bad) and the fight mechanics are very awkward, especially with the camera which awfully positioned half the time.
Still cool effects & atmosphere and not that many horror games on the X360, so going to continue with it and see what it delivers.

EDIT: Wire minigame: Goddamn its annoying!

Played through the first level and one word comes to mind - unpolished. From animations, to popups and controls. Feels like the game needs a few more months of polishing. The movement is also very jerky, feels like you are floating instead of smooth movement. Right analog stick moves the camera instead of you, so its very weird turning or moving, FPS view seems to be more precise since you can see where you are moving. I hope there are plenty of bullets, because melee combat sucks imo.
Pros: The game has great atmosphere so far (though it sucks there is no music unless something important is happening, kind of weird when its that quite). Graphics are not that great, but they do create the right mood when used corectly (for example, once the game starts, you are moving through a dark corridor, and a light source behind a moving fan scatters the light in that corridor, looks very nice, and moody at the same time).
Like Mutantius i will keep playing, and hope the game will improve once you get to the park, since it seems to be more open ended.

Yeah so many bugs in this and the rope scenes are weird, it does need more polishing and just doesnt seem complete. I was walking on air in the buildings and the camera gets on my tits sometimes when trying to look around. The bit where i went "wtf" is when you fall from the building thinking something else is going to happen when your hanging and all of a sudden the camera goes over the city then says "Alone in the Dark"

Thats just mischievous, why did you post such a false critique?

The graphics are NOTHING like a ps2, they are superb and the effects some of the best I've seen INTEGRATED into a game.
Im not talking pre-rendered backdrops but environments you can interact with.

Exaggeration always helps to prove a point, anyway no, in my humble opinion I think the graphics are outdated and its just bad because they DID really made some super neat things in effects & havok integration, but its just so poorly executed.

Everyone should try it, if you are a fan of survivor horror games bad controls should be nothing new to you. And gun control is alright, like anyother fps, its just you have to switch to 3rd person when exploring (which is very clanky) because FPS exploring seems kind of limited. So i think it does worth a verb/rent.
Quick Edit: Damn the melee combat is horrible, im thinking of stopping playing it since most likely i wont find that many bullets and have to use melee a lot.
The framerate is very stable, have not experienced any slow downs yet, but right now im mostly inside the building so will have to wait until i get into the park which is more open to see how it holds. Dont know if i can make it there, since melee combat is pissing me off.

Im playing it and loving it. Crank up the sound because this game has amazing audio! I certainly think the camera can be awkward at times, but you get used to switching between 1st and 3rd fairly early on. The inventory system is clever imo. Thats one useful jacket! If you were looking forward to this or you are a fan of survival horror games, this game deserves your attention I think. Its on par with Starbreeze titles like The Darkness in terms of immersion so far and I like that. I also think there is a much larger game lurking under the surface than I can see from where am I right now.

Melee combat is bad because you can't predict when the enemy's attack starts. He just jumps at you or lunges without any starting animation and there's no cooldown (or whatever the word is) like in Conan or Viking when you can quickly counterattack.
Also if you're wielding a big item like a chair and you lock on the target, the chair covers the enemy completely and you don't see what he's doing - just standing or attacking?

I have a question about the inventory - where do you learn the item combinations? It's clear that the sprays (not the healing ones, 'course) can be used as slamethrowers but what are the other things used for? Like batteries? For the flashlite or..?

all in all the game is pretty good, i dont see bad gfx they all look pretty nice to me, and the inventory system and some other minor things are done real well. maybe even innovative. The story is unfolding nicely, the only thing i see really wrong with it is the controls and camera and it is not that it is even wrong just diffrent. You just have to get used to them, i am by now and the game seems dam good to me.The whole right stick being used as a shoulder type look and not a full camera is wierd to me, switching to first person view helps though and is tied to a button so i guess that is how they intended it to play. There is some gfx tearing but very minor from what i saw and some frame drops at times but again, i dont think it spoils the game. I definatley would say it is worth at least a rental so in that case it should be worth a disk. I think on this one it should be tried on your own cause some ppl will just pick it apart hating it so and others will love it. I am finding it quite enjoyable once you get the hang of it.They even priced this one at 49.99 in the stores instead of the typical 59.99 as most games are when they come out. Its not a bad game and prolly be one of the few latley i actually finish a play through on.People should at least give it a go, you might actually like it.

vodka---- I dont think there is a written combination you can pretty much try anything, it seems if it would work at all in the real world it works in the game. i have been able to combine whatever i have tried so far basically making flamethrowers and bombs but i have not gotten too much of a varied inventory yet.

gonna go play some sorry for the long drawn out reply, i just think the game deserves a fair shot from those ppl that dont usually like to draw there own opinions from games and listen to those underappreciated snobby gaming scholars that work some of the boards.

I used double sided tape on an explosive plastic bottle, then combined that with a handkerchief (or however you spell that) and then lit that on fire and threw it at a wall ... KABOOOOM!

I tried taping my flashlight to my gun but it was a not go, if you have your flashlight on and equipped and you decide to pull out another item or weapon he will stick the flashlight in a loop in the shoulder of his jacket. kinda cool.

Im sure there are more combinations and more items yet to find. Those are just some the items you find in and around the starting level

I'd like to get the combinations because you know, sometimes in survival games those items are so scarce that you can simply waste all of them while experimenting, lol. And I just ain't got that much time to restart the game and do it all again the right way.
Guess I should wait for some FAQ... Btw, does the molotov that you make explode after some time in your hands when you ignite it?

So in conclusion, the framerate is mediocre? (30-40fps)
