Posted: Fri, 13th Jun 2008 07:09 Post subject: Airsoft In Your Country? |
|
 |
I have heard about Airsoft for years now since I am a military gamer but never really looked into it much. Recently an associate brought 2 Airsoft guns to work to show me what they were like and I was very impressed by them. Not only did they look extremely real but they had a good weight to them.
Are any of you into Airsoft and if so what country do you live in?
For those that may have not heard about Airsoft it is a sport somewhat like paintball but the guns are almost identical replicas of real guns and instead of paint balls they shoot 6mm plastic BBs. The fact that the guns are so real looking is a lot of the appeal.
I live in Canada and Airsoft is very underground. The laws are vague and confusing. Airsoft is not illegal but not exactly legal. If you try to import an Airsoft gun into Canada it will be seized by customs. If a cop pulls you over and searches your trunk the Airsoft gun may or may not be confiscated depending on the mood and knowledge of the cop.
I live in Toronto but trying to find an Airsoft gun for a reasonable price is nearly impossible. You could probably buy a real gun for cheaper.
I am all for gun control and I am glad Canada has such strict restrictions. However I think the laws are ridiculous regarding Airsoft because guns that fire metal BBs are still considered legal and can be bought at any Canadian Tire (our major hardware and sporting goods chain).

I've heard of it, I used to be into it but I lost interest. My friends still do it though, they usually have games in an abandoned paint factory Or int the woods. In my town you can do it pretty much anywhere as long as it is not in places where people livean as long as you don't shoot at outstanders. I think it's kinda expensive though, 200-300€ for a good electric assault rifle +~50€ for the battery+recharger. Marui is definately the best brand for every gun.
Then there are also spring powered and gas powered guns. Spring powered are like, you pull back the thing adn shoot then repeat. Gas powered guns are semi-automatic and they're very powerful adn they're the most awesome imo. If you get a gas blowback handgun it is like a real gun(recoil) except that you have to put gas in the clip all the time. And damn does it hurt to get hit by a gas powered sniper rifle. The best BBs to use are 0,20g, yeah there is a difference because you have to worry about wind, your gun's range + if it has Hop-Up(Makes the BB spin backwards thus generating lif and make it fly further) If you have hop-up on a high setting adn you use light BBs they will fly upward really fast and you'll have trouble hitting anybody. If you have a gas powered sniper rifle you might wanna get 0,28g or 0,30g BBs because the rifles are frickin powerful.
I hope atleast someone understood what I was saying
EDIT: Oh yeah, you wanna get some extra magazines if you're using a handgun because reloading the magazines is a pain in the ass. If you have a electric AK-47 for example you can buy a Hicap magazine that fits a few hundred BBs.

Iv got 4; desert eagle 1:1 copy, some colt pistol, and 2 crappy "made-in-china" ones. There are clubs for it here, but 5-6 years ago we where too young to join those clubs. So we just went out in the woods with skiglasses and played teams and capture the flag and stuff. Pretty cool when you are 6 or more people.
But now its all about paintball. You can't trick you out not being hit in paintball, so Air soft < paintball
and Tippmann FTW ^^
Donkey_Punch: Seems like Canada is just as confused as Norway. I think it became legal after everyone bought softguns from Sweden and other places in europe. So they put airsoft under the same law as BBguns etc. So you got to be 18 yo to buy softguns here. Same with paintball.

Jenni you Brits are so lucky since it seems you have no restrictions on Airsoft. All my UK friends have an awesome Airsoft collection that they bought dirt cheap.
In Canada Airsoft is in limbo legally. They are considered "prohibited weapons" in that you don't need a license to own but you have to be 18+ and treat them as if they are real weapons. In other words you are supposed to transport them in a locked case in your trunk of the car. If you are seen with them in public you will treated the same as if you were walking around the streets with an assault rifle ie you will be shot.
As I mentioned above the laws are completely retarded. Metal BB guns are legal and widely available (I assume because the law is "grandfathered" in). In their infinite wisdom the government made non-shooting 1:1 replica guns illegal (even though you can just as easily rob a bank with a knife or a banana in the pocket)
Airsoft guns shoot BBs so it falls right in between a non-shooting replica and a metal shooting BB gun. Legal limbo...how low can you go.
The big problem is that the customs department has decided on their own that Airsoft is illegal (even though there are no laws on the books saying so) and have been confiscating all weapons shipped into the country. You won't find many stores with Airsoft in Canada because every time their shipment gets seized they have to hire a lawyer to fight to get it released. Financially it isn't worth their time.

Gee never seen anyone post an image with a so-called funny caption underneath before. How cutting edge.
If we look at your previous posts in your profile we can see you have posted at least 4 other of these types of unfunny images in different threads. How 2002 of you.

Airsoft is gay. You said you have a job so I am guessing you may be a little old for toy guns.

Thats right, and the only reason you have a car is because you had hot wheels as a child.
Got any more old internet fads you want to dig up? Perhaps you can type "pwn3d" next?

I don't really understand the car comment. I have a car for the same reason everyone else does.
I had an airsoft gun when I was 12 and it got boring after a couple days. I don't see a problem with regular BB guns because they are not pretending to be something they aren't. Same thing with paintball guns. Airsoft is kind of creepy and gay that's all I'm saying.
There is no reason to have replica guns of any kind except for training purposes.

Well actually they've just changed the law. Although I'm not sure what it is now. But I do know that you have to have an airsoft weapon in a gunbag if you're in public. The same with an air rifle. As for American laws, they have to have the muzzle painted red. We don't need that because guns are so rare here. Over there it's as lightly to be a real gun than an airsoft weapon.

I agree with the strict rules because they look too much like the real thing. I could see a bunch of kids getting ahold of them and using them on strangers. It would be petty sad but there are a lot of owners that wouldn't lock them up. We have a gang problem too and I could see the police shooting someone because they tought the wepon was real.
The average person wouldn't know what the red at the end of the butt meant.

If someone runs around with a fake gun in public they deserve for Darwin to prove his theory right .
Pistolshrimp I am curious but are you American and do you believe your fellow citizens should have real guns?

I think you guys are learning the definition of "the slippery slope".
First they ban "assault rifles".
Then they ban hand guns.
Then they ban centerfire hunting rifles.
Then they ban rimfires.
Then they ban airsoft.
Then they ban replicas.
Then they ban pellet guns.
Then they ban swords.
Then they ban knifes.
Then they ban sharpened sticks.
Then they ban "harsh words".
etc. etc.

Repo1 if this means my kids can go to school without getting shot at then I gladly accept it. America can keep it's gun "freedoms". I think the Airsoft rules are ridiculous but I am glad the government is strict with real firearms.
The average person is a complete moron and I wouldn't want them to be armed.

I gotta admit I would be fooled by one of those guns if someone else was holding it. If you ever get a chance to hold a m-16 you will be amazed on how light it is and how much it looks like a toy. I think fake guns like these are a bad idea because if someone ever pointed it at someone like me they won't even get a chance to tell me its fake.

Exactly! If these things are supposed to fire 6mm pellets/bbs then the only reason why the muzzle diameter is so big is to make it look as authentic as the real article. Plus there's another reason why these replicas are a bad idea. Criminals who use these guns to rob/threaten people and get caught have a safety net of claiming that it was not a real gun. The victims don't know that when it's happening so for them the trauma is the same but the bad guys get off with a slap on the wrist.
