I bought my copy today and have had no problems whatsoever with Steam (other than the fact that it's there, of course.) I've been playing the game now for about 9 hours and I think it's probably the best game I've ever played. The world is rich and beautiful, the chracter's facial expressions and movement animations are awesome, the physics system makes for some interesting puzzle solving. It all combines together to provide the best gaming experience (in my opinion) since the first Halflife.
The only downside for me so far is that there's not enough blood in the game. There doesn't seem to be any blood splattering on the scenery and body parts don't leave trails like they did in Halflife.
I think I will download it just so I don't have to install Steam, but it was still well worth the cash to buy.

Tried it and so far so good... gonna take a long time to download the whole thing though. I didn't use the cd-key in the first post, I use one thats in a later post.

Sooo uhm no Multiplayer with regular Half life 2.... Fuck it I might just get the Emperio release to avoid steam even though I have a voucher....

I too got the emporio copy to run for about 60 secs and then it crashes.. so i restarted it and got a little farther.. and then it crashed again and stalled my pc... eh no big deal right so i started for the 3rd time and it did a blue screen and rebooted my lovely pc..!!!!!!! so...
needless to say this copy works.. but not for that long i will try that Error FIX .. which is supposed to work.... ill post my outcome later

to fix the error: 1.go to the folder \Steam\SteamApps | 2. rename sourcemodels.gcf completely | > restart the game

When you said "completely" you mean renaming it like Gabe_Newell.sucks or whatever we want to call it???

I bought the game. I am absolutley furious!!!
First I couldn't create an account, then my cd key doesn't work
What DUMB IDEA was it to have steam invloved. IT BLOWS BIG TIME!!!!
If you wear a selafone suite, people clearly see your nuts.

I don't know what people do on steam to fux it up, mine has always worked FINE only problems i ever had were with friends, who cares about that, and occasionally CS would drop players, and that really doesnt matter, you just reconnect...
steam had problems i hear last night, what do you expect its a pretty big rollout...
i had no problems tho using it 10 am this morning.
been playing on and off ever since, this game is worth the money i paid

I had the game legit and preloaded,authenticated right on release time,took about 10 minutes to unlock the files,been playing no probs ever since so nothing wrong with the proper game.Fucking awesome game!!!!And there are a shitload of multiplayer mods coming out for it.

I just bought Half Life 2 from Futureshop. My version didn't come with Half Life:Source. I'm just wondering if HS:S will be released on its own or is it on the HL2 dvd from Emporio?

Hhhmmm it´s very ... well... quite in this thread, very neat, no requests and such. I remember when RTW was released it was crazy, i thought HL2 would be twice as crazy but it seems it´s very calm, lol, maybe not all have discovered that Nforce is online again. I am impressed.

i wont buy as i don't support valve in any way. but anyways, i'm getting lost connection to steam errors when loading the "loader.exe" hmmm will wait for repack.

I Own HL2 but want to play it on my laptop when i'm away, But have no internet at that time, can i just use the "2004.11.17.Half.Life.2.EMPORiO.FIX-ape.rar" fix or is there more to the crack i.e. do i need the hl2.exe from the first release?
