I noticed alot of discussion around alcohol and drugs and smoking of certain materials and thought to myself perhaps there is a link in piracy and druge use/abuse. both are anti social facets in soceity perhaps they go hand in hand like violence. interesting theory? discuss.

No connection and not interesting.
I'm not drinking / not using drugs and I still prefer to test the games I may wanna buy. If the games are good, than I spend my money on them. If not, they get deleted.
And if I would have bought a game that sucks, than I would have returned it.
The companys don't lose money, because I wouldn't have bought a game, that I don't like. And I don't lose time buying a game and bringing it back.

maybe i think that the criminal activities run parrallel and once you are into a similar behaviour pattern you are not afraid to try more such as drugs or vice versa.

Well, since I have played on both sides of the fence extensively allow me to answer this question.
When one is abusing illicit and or prescription drugs at least 3 times daily; piracy does not really correlate for various reasons:
1. When you are doing drugs you could care less about downloading shit off the net. The only thing that matters is your next fix and how you're going to get it.
2. Drugs incapacitate (pass you out) or make it so you don't even consider the newest game out or newest media.
3. Your entertainment/pleasure IS the drugs. Games don't pleasure a drug abuser enough to bother with them. Drugs are god
In short drugs are entertainment - team sports are entertainment - games/warez or legal is entertainment - I could go on. Its basically pick your poison.
I'm also not talking about the occasional toker here. I’m talking about everyday almost any type of drug. I'm not saying people that do drugs don't play games. The more drugs you do the less gaming you do its pretty simple.
One story may not prove to have much external validity however, I have many other people I "blow it down" with and none of them pirate much other than a few songs here and there.

You forgot the choice:
"Its just propoganda enforced by the media to try and gain the publics sympathy for the greedy game companies/media giants"
A few years ago it was links with the Mafia and drug running. Next year they will probably say it finances child porn rings.. f*cking knobs

I think there is now a connection. This is because people who deal in illegal trades will deal anything in order to make money. That is on the distribution side. For most of us we are just normal people, like your neighbours.
Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, but to weigh and consider.
To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.
In all your remembering, remember that you have choices

There's a clear connection between drug abuse and piracy. Piracy is despicable (hence the thread in the PC Games section) and causes severe financial problems. The developers do not get paid because their product is stolen by dirty pirates (it's a fact that pirates are nerds and nerds do not shower often), and because of this they take the easy way out for their next project and make a overly simplified game that will sell billions. This in turn causes a severe decline in IQ, the games are just not challenging enough. In a decade or two the IQ of gamers and developers will have declined so much, that a gamepad with two buttons will be considered hardcore.
Besides this, piracy also causes severe ecological problems. Downloading takes time, not everyone has a 20Mbit connection. While downloading, the PC stays on. It is a well-known fact that pirates are nerds, and nerds have high-end PC's These high-end PC's demand alot of power (9800GTX SLI'd requires a nuclear reactor according to Nvidia's official site), and these heavy power requirements must be met. So the governments are forced to burn up more oil, resulting in more CO2 and a steady decline in our global fossil fuel supply.
To silence their conscience, the pirates inevitably fall for the drug trap.
I think I made my case. All of my arguments are backed up by decades of research.
PS. don't believe Al Gore, don't believe the hype, pirates are causing global warming.
