Weaksauce. Twisted Evil Razz

Anywho tried it yesterday and I´m not sure I like the changes from previous one. The combo was not as flued as before. The enemies keeps on charging without any real pattern braking the combos and I have to use essence charging and ki power ups alot more than before. On normal difficulty. Wtf? It´s like watching the game play itself. Especially with the Y-button finnish move. Buttonmashing seems to work ina way not possible before and also blocking and sliding away doesnt work as effective as before.

Probably this is something to adjust to, but first impression is that gameplay itself was better before.

just read the gamespot review and it seemed pretty disappointing.

"This action-packed sequel isn't quite up to the standards of its precursors..."

"Ninja Gaiden II does not feature the technical prowess you would expect from a game in 2008..."

"...it looks barely better than it did before..."

^^just a few quotes from the review. These are the exact things that i was trying to tell myself weren't true, but now this game is definitley a rental for me.

Agreed, how anyone can say NG1 looked better is beyond me. The gameplay is better too, though a bit too fast. The enemies are smarter, on Warrior that is. In NG1 I had the feeling they weren't really active, some enemies were just cannon flodder.

@Nailbiter: what difficulty are you playing on? I've heard Acolyte is very forgiving. I can't buttonmash, someone always gets me in the back. I have to keep moving and use my head. The first ninjas aren't really the smart ones, maybe that's what you're taking about. Dodging and countering works actually better here, you just have to get used to it. If you learn how to counter effectively, the game will be much easier since counters do huge damage. I think you just have to get used to it, just keep playing.

Yeah, I´m going to up one level to normal mode. Acolyte was just weired? Blocking and countering was not as effective as I am used to. But You Mister_s seems to have gotten a hang of it, so I´m giving it some time.

So far I do not feel like I am the controlling Ryu, from time to time and also that Ki is overused and that red essence is given alot. Seems to me a huge change in gameplay itself. I mean in NG1 I only used Ki pretty much on bosses, for invunerable effect, whereas here i use it on foot soldiers to slash there heads off, just by watching and then often grab a red orb from on of their bodies.

Warrior is great when fighting normal enemies, they block, dodge, counter etc. But bosses are extremely frustrating. The second boss (ninja guy) for example dodged almost every attack. Even Flying Swallow was useless because he just intercepted you in the air. I have no idea how I defeated him, it's all a big blur now. I'm not a fanatic gamer though, I can imagine someone playing everyday can get the hang of it and just flash through the game in Warrior. I'd advise anyone looking for a challenge to play warrior.
Ninpo isn't really common in Warrior, I really only use it on bosses or when I'm completely surrounded. I always use up everything I got (herbs, grains) in every level, it's inevitable. Upgrading weapons is really difficult because I keep using up my essence for healing herbs Sad .

Throwing arrows into the face of the "fish" and running away from his attacks. Charge your bow to maximum, then when is in read, thwow the arrow. Just this strategy a few more times and it'll be defeated.

Never played a NG game until now. I've been too timid to be brutally humiliated by the difficulty. But I'm fucking loving this, even if I'm a pansy acolyte. The first couple levels as you're learning new combos (the air spiral one is awesome!) it's like non-stop adrenaline!

Took me ages to kill that fish boss on chapter 3. Ultimately I fluked out in that he never shot off a glowing face attack. The little fish were easy if you know when they spawn, just keep a UT charge going. At about 15% he falls on his back and you just run up and KO the bitch. I woke up my son at like 2am I was screaming so loud lol!

Not too many games get me that excited over beating hard bosses. This one is a keeper for sure.

There are only 2 difficulty settings when you begin the game for the first time:

Easy = hard as fuck
Medium = throw the xbox out the window

omfg how sweet is that kusari gama thingie (Sickle with chain)?!

imo NG2 is the best polished, most entertaining god-of-war-like hack'n slay action adventure game for the 360.

visually as well as gameplay -wise

I love the difficulty in NG2. It's not hard because the AI is cheap, it's hard because it takes skill to chain combos, knowing when to block, when to UT, chaining UTs....you have an amazing amount of resources to deal with the encounters. Failing at it only makes me more determined to do better. I just finished off Alexi, and am workiing my way to Volf. That battle was hard, and I got lucky with having a Life of a Thousand Gods (or whatever). Just one Grain as well. In the end, it all came down to dodging and slamming Y combos to take him down. Hard fight but winnable.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats finishing a battle against of hoard of enemies, knowing you only have a sliver of health and one mistake will cost you. Coming out on top in those situations is the best experience a gamer can enjoy. Don't get me wrong though, there are times when my game is off and I just can't do anything properly. Getting super frustrated and nearly breaking anything in a ten yard radius, but it's a small price to pay for that true feeling of victory Smile

It's funny. I had no idea this was coming out. I never followed any hype or even played the first games in the series. I gave it a passing glance, but not having much else to play I tried it. Who knew I'd turn fanboy over it? o_O;;

I think in some cases AI is cheap. Like those fire arrow dudes on the second (or first) level. They always attacked from huge distances and through solid objects. One of them was completely out of the reach and i didnt have the bow yet. I thought once i get far enough he'll stop, no chance, he just kept firing long after i left his FOV. And that boss in the tunnel reminded me of this once he started using projectile thingies, i managed to dodge few of them, but they just kept coming at you. Or the dudes who launch themselves at you off the screen, or the fucking blowing up boss. Yeah, so in some instances they are cheap, but most often they kick my ass because i suck.

Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.

Nice read nightlith, reminds me how it felt playing thru NG1 for the first time.

Get NG:Black if you havent already. Most likely the best game for the old xbox.

Having played NG1, this one feels about as difficult, which was to be expected.

However, where NG1 managed to build up a sense of suspension and adventure/exploration, NG2 is completely linear, herding you from fight to fight as quickly as possible, as if scared that you'll grow bored if you have to stay for 10 seconds in any single area without getting attacked.
Rather than action/adventure, it feels a bit like playing a fighting game on single player mode: all you do is go from one encounter to the next with no real sense of continuity in between. Big drawback for what could have been a really great game.

Reached chapter 13 and I have to say I'm getting a little bored. Run forward, fight a dozen enemies, run forward, fight a dozen enemies, run forward... meh.

I honestly prefer the fighting in NG Black. NGII is fun in short bursts, but the hectic action means you will resort to button mashing (even if you know the combos). The combo system in DMC4 is deeper and therefore better IMO.
