there will be no expasion pack
crysis warhead is a standalone game, a sequel to crysis, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek’s CryENGINE 2 technology.
someone should make a proper template for this thread....

Hmmm..... enhanced... better graphics? That would be very cool, considering the high caliber graphics of Crysis.
Optimized... as in... "won't bring your top of the line rig to a bloody standstill" optimized?
Seems awful quick to be releasing another CryEngine2 game, I hope we see some more info (i.e. screens) soon!

Contrary to earlier reports, Crysis Warhead will be released as a standalone sequel in the Fall.
Maximum freedom, maximum explosions and maximum Psycho! Electronic Arts Inc. and award-winning independent studio Crytek today announced Crysis Warhead – the parallel story to Crysis, one of the most critically-acclaimed first person shooters and PC games of 2007. Shipping exclusively for the PC this autumn Crysis Warhead is the first title to be developed at Crytek´s Budapest studio, and is built on a new, enhanced and optimized version of Crytek’s CryENGINE 2 technology.
“We were very pleased with the reception of Crysis from both gamers and media after our launch last year,” said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek. “That being said, one of the key principles of our studio is to always raise the bar. With Warhead, we are focusing on refining our storytelling and game performance, while also delivering more of the visually stunning graphics and immersive, free-roaming gameplay everyone loved in Crysis.”
“The best result of a partnership that we can ask for in the EA Partners program is when a world class independent studio like Crytek chooses to continue to work with us,” said David DeMartini, Vice President and Global General Manager, EA Partners. “Crysis was an amazing game and is going to be a blockbuster franchise. We could not be more excited to be working with Crytek to launch another hit with Crysis Warhead this year.”
In Crysis Warhead, players will don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as ‘Psycho’, one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players will experience Psycho’s parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho’s Nanosuit is just as capable and he’s equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new, exciting single player campaign, Crysis Warhead will also feature new multiplayer content. Stay tuned for more details this summer.

I for 1 am looking forward to this with high anticipation. I really enjoyed Crysis and recently beat it. I am a little bummed that this isn't a full fledged sequel. Expansion packs are ok but usually not a great leap forward and more of the same. Fear Extraction Point comes to mind, not really answering any questions. Leaving you with more questions than answered. Thankfully Crysis isn't FEAR or HL2 so there isn't really any cliffhanger juicy bits I am waiting for. I hope it's good.

Oh parallel story huh? I can see all the intense and action packed missions already.
Use stealth mode and stand by the door inside the school (where you promised Nomad you'd help him clean up), and then when Nomad tries to open it, open it up first, kick the Korean officer's ass, and rescue the chick while giving her the impression that you're also the guy who exterminated all soldiers within the premises. Then tell Nomad to go blow up a tank while you sex up the archaeologist.
Or how about a mission where you provide Nomad cover fire only you don't, and you just stay up there in that sniping spot on top of the port not firing at all. Also if Nomad climbs up there to check up on where the hell his cover fire is, you must tell him to get back down and complete the mission while you provide cover fire only you don't. Because you're Psycho. You're an ass.

Quote: | Crysis sells 3 million through Retail
On the latest PC Gamer UK mag, July 2008
PC Gamer Magazine had an exclusive interview with Crytek, where Crytek states Crysis has sold 3 million through retails sales worldwide.
That is a huge success for a game of such high requirements.
This interview can be found on page 27 of the PC Gamer UK Mag |
