So you're a guy. You drink with other guys. You guys get drunk. Then someone decides to play inch for inch. Then you go into bloody knuckles hit for hit. Then it escalates to punch for punch. And now, the day after, your shoulder is black as night. You knuckles are bruised as fuck. And fuck.... it hurts! Laughing

been drinking a fair amount since I was 15 ... so that's almost half my life now.

pistol, I forgot what the number was ... the doc is sending me for another blood test to confirm it is elevated anyways. he didn't really say it was that high, just something to be aware of.

also got the results of my upper GI series ... apparently I have abnormally high reflux in my esophagus and also I tested positive for h. pylori infection (causes ulcers).

sucks to be getting old Neutral

ALT or AST. ALT goes from 1-40. Most people are at 25-32. People that have been 100 or so can go down to normal within a month. You might want to look into hep B vac. shot. If you are within the range and I surprised he even said something to you. Most don't.

h. pylori i isn't that bad. Pretty common these days. Just some antiboit. to cure it and heal. At least they know what causes it.

well if you keep it to just that you might not have to worry about your liver so much Wink

this is a summary of a study done on men and women, comparing differences in consumption and drinking patterns ...

http://alcoholism.about.com/od/liver/a/blacer040616.htm

I binge drank pretty much all through undergrad ... still do when I get together with my friends. I hate to say I'm not surprised :/ I drink too much during the week too. I think that will be my first step, just limiting alcohol to weekends only.

actually I just got a new doc ... funny thing is, he's younger than me Razz

and yeah, I got some antibiotics for the bacteria... and also I was among the first generation of high school students that had mandatory hep B vaccination back in 1997 or so.

The liver is very resilient, much like the rest of the body. Take some significant time off of drinking, like a few months at least. You should return to normal. Once you are within normal ranges you should not drink heavy anymore, keep any alcohol to a minimum if at all.

I no longer drink to get drunk (it's more of a nice side effect than a goal these days, and I never get too drunk, just giddy and warm cheeks), it's pointless and isn't worth it. It was different when I was younger of course, but hopefully most people learn their limits and get a more mature and sensible view on alcohol before they've turned into alcoholics. Of course if someone is unfortunately enough to have a genetic predisposition of alcoholism there's only one thing to do: completely abstain.

I have a particular view on this. Do you wish to live a healthy long life? or do you wish to live a long life of suffering?

You see (and I say this with all due respect btw) that is your choice, few people just die as a result of these things, mostly they degrade and life relatively long lives with no quality. In my view of things it should at least make the choice simple. The action not so much, anytime one must make a lifestyle change it is difficult.
