Well, it tells you that you're bound to end up annoyed with a game that doesn't work right since the protection is doing what it was supposed to be doing, namely ruin the game for you.

Why do developers even bother with 3rd party copy protection?
They could just make their own in game checks. Like one at the very end of the game where you can't hurt the final boss at all.
If you want to finish the game, buy it!

Developers are working on the game. Then the publisher steps in and decides what kind of protection should go in.
And this protection is pretty damn effective at the moment. The big failure here is the staggered release of the game. If it had been available in Europe they'd see a major impact on sales due to the protection that still haven't been cracked properly. The fact that they separated the release dates is just stupid on their part. They deserve every bit of piracy they complain about.
Mr.Wise: and by hacking your way through the game you dropped the fun-factor by 30-50% :/

I mean sure it looks geat and is fun to go around in- and I can do that already (I just have to use the console to actually move the ship).

the ingame protection is the cause they managed to cancel 3-times install and 10-days activation in Russia.
I think these all bulls activations were just bluffing

Funny thing is, I can open the GM, and by meshing away at the mouse buttons, I can get it to appear as well, and travel anywhere I like. It's the landing that's problematic. The GM goes totally fubar there, plus the airlock won't open. A shame, as I was really getting into this game, really nicely done. If not for this awful DRM, I might even buy it, too. But as things are now, I'll just need to wait for a proper solution, which I hope comes soon.
BTW, someone complained about the lack of a clone. Actually, there is one, it was the first to appear; do a little search if you wanna experiment. And as a matter of fact, the uncracked version of either release IS a clone, too.

Ironic these copy protections are.
I mean, sure this one works nicely. I can imagine the ammount of frustrated people running to buy the game.
On the other hand, online activation usually comes with limitations on how many times you can activate something.. Nah.. no thank you.
The only online store i will ever buy games from is steam.. there i have my account with my games linked to it, and i can download and play whatever i have, whenever im in the mood to do so. No keys, no activation cr*p, no copy protection to ruin my day.
Then again.. no matter how good mass effect is.. at the end of the day its still only a few shots. Even considering all the different outcomes (and i guess there must be a few, based on the past with KOTOR and co), the game is basically the same every time you play it.. little to no variation.
With that being said, i rather spend my money on games that have an actual replay value. The problem with serious story teller games is that even though they are interesting and fun, the sole fact, that i get to listen to the same story, the same dialogs etc over and over again makes me puke.
Hell, just restarting the game twice because i decided i do not like the class i started with made me feel bad as i had to listen to all the same dialogs and watch the cutscenes (which you cant advance or skip) i already saw half an hour ago.
The dialog system is not replay friendly. There should be numbered answers, so that you can swiftly go through them once you know a particular sequence you wanna go for. Instead you have to keep hitting space, but if you happen to do that when the choice menu is up, then you also select an answer with it.. Stupid way of setting it up. (this one might be configurable, i didnt check)

Well kinda like what's going on now. Various checks in the executable that relate with in game progress. Like when they hit a certain quest, it checks the executable for certain parameters that don't show up with an invalid exe and what not. The lack of certain parameters = no quest items and stuff.
I'm sure it'd be cheaper on the publisher to just have the developers work this in rather than spend cash for a 3rd party protection license.

i think this late EU release teasing is pretty lame.
agreed with the post above that they deserve the piracy...
hyping like this is lame
hyping like bethesda did with oblivion is not (countdown videos, press releases, etc)
i shall have no regrets if i end up playing a proper cracked version if it's out earlier than i can get it legally.

before the game came out i didnt really care.. then ive gone from wanting it and considering buying to not really caring at all.
i preordered bioshock but pirated it as much as possible after i had found out it had the online activation and i didnt have a net connection. will do the same with this when its properly cracked.. free copies to everyone and anyone i know.

Can anyone tell me where can I find all the localization files?
In my country the game won't contain the original english subtitles (retarded distributor), and will only have the half-assed and ridicilously translated text (previous experiences taught me that only idiots work as translators at that company).
I will have to overwrite the localized files with the original english ones, but so far I only found the "engine\localization\INT\" files, but they contain way too little data to be the real deal.

I was at a game shop yesterday and would have bought the game, if it were out and not more than 35€. But no, first they release it late here in germany, and then it will probably cost at least 45€, which is way too much. If I gotta wait anyway, I can wait for a proper crack...
