|
 |
I recently discovered that Apple hosts lots of high quality 1080p trailers of upcoming movies. Playing the files with QuickTime is impossible on my Core2Duo, but I didn't expect anything else from that bloated ressource-monster. VLC can play them fluently, but crashes a lot, more than VLC usually crashes on me.
I'd like to play them with Media Player Classic and CoreAVC. This should work since the files are encoded with H.264, but MPC refuses to use CoreAVC for mov files. I suspect it uses the QuickTime decoder instead.
How can I force MPC to use CoreAVC?

I need iTunes so I can't uninstall Quicktime (otherwise I would agree with you).
I don't need a codec-pack, ffdshow and CoreAVC suit my needs.

Already did that (set CoreAVC as prefered filter), but MPC doesn't want to use it. Seems like it has a strict policy on mov files.

Can't you use quicktime alternative at least? Or doesn't that work in corolation with itunes?
Also, prob an obvious question, but did you remember to untick h.264 decoding in ffdshow?

Here's a bypass suggestion:
Get MKVToolnix and use mmg.exe to take the video and audio out of that mov format and put in an MKV (not reencode, just switch containers). It takes seconds and should work.
Edit: Oh, you solved it. Well, know this as well, I prefer all my videos in MKV.

I would prefer mkv files as well but I'm too lazy to remux them since we're talking about trailers only. I don't intend to archive them.
