Well it's the UE3 engine so ofcourse there's a bit of network stuff in it, in this case though I'm a bit unsure what it tries to do, perhaps just check for updates or whatever.

Maybe try reinstalling the game, and disabling net connection every time you run it? See if it works for Galaxy and other stuff.

I haven't gotten to the part that everyone seems to be having problems. Maybe I should see if it gives me problems or not.

Anyway, still, a little suspicious to me, single player games don't need network utilization...

everyone write about quicksave that doesnt work but normal saves from menu works fine ? I agree with sabin this game is example of bad optimisation(maybe because its console port) I run the game with X2 4800(2.8ghz OC) 2gb ram 7900GS with OC and in 800x600 medium without blur, shadows etc. i get 30-60 fps(the game looks like shit and as you see the fps is very unstable) In 1024 medium without blur, shadows etc. i get 22-45 fps. All tested with fraps and at the begining of the first planet(first fight too thats the moment where fps goes so low) You might say that my pc isnt high end but it meets the recommended !!!

i5 6600 + Silentiumpc Spartan Pro, Asus H170-plus mobo, HyperX 16 GB DDR4 2133MHz, Asus GTX 970 Strix OC, 1TB Seagate Barracuda, BeQuiet L8 500W, Zalman Z9 case, crap monitor Smile

Something interesting...i put the game on windowed mode and ran windows task manager open with the network tab selected. Started the game up, and immediatly displayed network utilization.

Also going through menus will use display network utilization.

EDIT: Yeah, definatly something with the authentication, someone also needs to confirm and see if you can install the game more than one time.

You know, by using the firewall, i recognized it adresses the internet only 1 time-at the launch)

Quick save works fine for me. However, note that during some gameplay places saving is disabled and if you try to quick save you will get 'quick save failed'.

However I do get the 'please reinstall' message on second run and then just a black screen it seems.

Hmm, well that's still something though. Does it attempt to use the internet more than the first time you launched it?

The savegame problem seems to be a matter of timing, it'll always work in the start, but it'll start not working as you progress.

However from my experience i got the galaxy map problem while also being unable to save.

Anyways Mass Effect does not connect to the internet, atleast mine didn't try to, and i went through the menus, went to the galaxy map etc. and there were no connections being made.

The launcher, however, will connect to a server, probably to get the latests news.

Wrong quote lol.

Still very strange. I tried starting the game up many times with no internet, it actually stops displaying network usage after a while.

What does that mean? paul.dll is a dll file needed for the activation?

Paul.dll is a cleverly disguised Securom library to deal with activations.

If that's so then, wooow, the game did catch on to the crack.

Ouch, sounds like an insidious protection. Kinda figured it would take longer to crack, I just hope they are able to fully crack it eventually. I myself had decided long time ago to buy the game since I love Bioware games and I bought it from gamestop (Living in EU) then downloaded the game from a torrent and used my cd-key. Haven't had any problems so far what so ever so must be the protection being completely gay.

If you use a no-cd fix then Paul.dll won't be used, or do you mean the game works better without that file when using any of the available cracks?
(It's the same with star-force as I do the same there, delete all the protect.xxx files after applying a crack to a starforce protected title.)

Cause you got crack. Without crack game ask you to insert disk. I think the only way we can play the with map and else - crack the paul.dll like it was with BioShock.

LoL, heh, that would be cool, but i kinda doubt it. Like I said, I haven't gotten to the part that everyone is having problems yet.

Not sure if paul.dll even mattered. But it is odd...that there is a paul.dll, kinda of a wierd name to give an important game file.

EDIT: So paul.dll was in bioshock? Interesting... How long did it take to fully crack Bioshock?
