Without starting a useless debate here, let's just say that for me RPG =/= l3wting, killing and power levelling. Sure, there're dialogues involved too, but your choices are: black, grey and white. Not to mention the fact that the three options are always positioned at the same place, effectively eliminating the need to actually ponder any possible answers. So for me, this looks like an action game. Perhaps you can say that with RPG elements.
Over and out.

What RPG has the dialogue system you want? It's always black, green or white. You're either good, bad or neutral. Sure some RPG's might give you the feeling you have different choices, but in the end it usually turns out to be all the same. Maybe Witcher came close to good dialogue options.
And it's obvious this game isn't a hardcore RPG, it's an action/RPG.

I think the problem is more due to Bioware themselves. Their games since KOTOR (Baldurs Gate as well I suppose, but it never felt quite as clear cut for some reason despite it being D&D) have had very strong divides between the good/evil options and an "alignment system" that keeps track, and where the evil often amounts to being a thug or bully.
My biggest beef about Mass Effect is what many others like so much, the uber heavy narrative and cinematic approach. I wish devs would go back to providing a good story where it feels like the *player* discovers it instead of the game constantly forcing cutscenes and narrative on you.
I also don't particularly like the action-y approach, with stats working in the background. Give me pure action, or pure RPG "stats only" combat where the player is in a more tactical role instead of "in the action". I can't stand these hybrid systems.
Anyways, the upcoming Dragon Age will at least not have an alignment system at all, which is one reason to look forward to it I suppose.

If anyone wants to know...
It seems that russian version of MEPC won't have internet activation and/or number of instalation limit. Looks like no SecuROM for us... Say hello to StarForce, for better or worse...
Official info from local publisher and localicer

google translation:
Studio Snowball.ru and firm 1 P reported that in order to launch the Russian version of role-playing MASS EFFECT Internet activation is not required. Game will be put on an infinite number of times an unlimited number of computers. Internet connection for the game is not necessary.
An agreement on this was reached in a long and arduous process of communicating with studio BioWare. At the final decision of Canadian developers have had a significant impact hundreds of users AG.ru, Bioware.ru and other Russian portals. Where there is activation of what was the reaction to it from the studio staff and how they have chosen to deal with it - all this can be found in the near videointervyu lokalizatorov.
Snowball.ru firm 1 and S express deep gratitude MASS EFFECT fans for their support and reminded that the Russian version of the game will be released on May 30, 2008.

Nothing is perfect, not least games made ten or so years ago. The caveat is when games of a more recent stock fail to improve upon the ideas of old and instead go down the path of simplifying further.

Stupid of them, investing all that money into that many different protections and those online verifications and now the groups could just take the weakest one (Safedisc) and crack that executable.
(It's just a EXE after all and those were never that important in Unreal engine titles in regards to functionality aside from launching the game which means that I doubt using the Czech exe on the English version shouldn't cause any issues aside from patches and content addon as those require a legit EXE and also require re-verification to work.)

I hope that smiley means sarcasm on your part, as for me =/= means "does not equal". Hence, I can't be arsed about hack 'n slash games.

The Witcher does. Most of the time in that game you have to choose between bad and real bad, and often the consequences become clear only at later stages. And it's bloody hard to even try and be neutral.

I totally agree with Ispep in this respect. Dumbing down games bodes no good; plus it makes me feel like the devs assume that everyone's a retarded 10-year old American kid, which is outrageous.

Mass Effect Goes Gold
Today, EA and BioWare announced that the PC version of the acclaimed sci-fi role-playing game, which debuted on the Xbox 360 more than six months ago, has gone gold, which means that the code is finished and off to the duplication plant.
When it will arrive at a store near you depends on where you live. North American gamers will get the game on May 28. European gamers will have to wait a bit longer, as it won't arrive on their continent until June 6.

Well, I was thinking about buying this ... but I'm not waiting for so many days, while the whole fucking internet gets their sweet Bioware-RPG dosage.
Maybe if it's really good I'll buy it afterwards, who knows.

Well, I didn't, so meh.
But if it is really good then there is one more reason to actually buy it. Will live, will see. ETA Russia 7 days.
