Since I got my ASUS Rampage Formula I only been able to run my 2 Gb of OCZ FlexXLC 1200MHz in single channel configuration. This means in the two channels furthest away from the CPU, channel 2A/2B (White/Blue).

If i put a ram stick in any of the A slots the board wont post, but just sits on "DET DRAM" (This board has a small LCD monitor that shows the boot sequence)

I also tried with my old OCZ SLI Ready Nvidia 1066MHz sticks, same result, just sits on "DET DRAM" no post.

The manual of this board says the following about RAM compatibility
Quote:
This chip set officially supports DDR2-800 MHz. With the ASUS Super Memspeed Technology, this motherboard natively supports up to DDR2-1066 MHz

Now of course I realize that I am trying to run 1200MHz sticks here, but why do they work only in the 2A/2B channels/slots?.

Like I said tried with my old 1066MHz sticks in the 1A/2A slots (one at the time) and the system wont post.

Written to ASUS tech support, but cause of the long weekend I guess I will not have any answer until the middle of the week.

I guess I could order a set of new 1066 sticks, but I want to be sure before I waist any money, could as well be the mobo, would be the 2nd time I RMA this board then.

I would enter the up-to-date cmos erased bios with one ram stick, disable every auto overclocking crap, downclock the ram from 1200 to 1066 or even 800Mhz and fill manually the bios settings with the ones recommended by OCZ for these sticks.
QVL for this board: http://www.asus.com/999/download/products/2070/2070_10.pdf

I had similar problems with the two first ram slots on my old a8n-sli deluxe when i got four ram sticks, same trouble for post because of the dual-channel -mostly useless 5% performance increase- thingy. I had either to down clock the sticks or boost the voltage back then and in the end one of the ram slot (1A) almost died... Switched to gigabyte after that. Wink

Cheers, at the mo I don't feel like opening the case and fiddle, been at it for 2 days now, open case, remove ram, try a different slot, bios, check, change slots and what have you. But I will try it in the morn.

Done some reading up on it over the last days, and it seems its not a common problem, but I have found at least 4-5 guys with exactly the same. So far i have not found any clear solution, other then getting some ram sticks from that latest QVL list...and even that might not do it...

Again, cheers for the input, will try later.

Just a note on that QVL, why does it say
Quote:
1024MB OCZ Heat-Sink Package N/A DS N/A V

in the 1200MHz column...N/A but its listed?

I can only guess that they don't bother giving the chips and brand numbers -thus these not really helpful n/a- coz most of those tried will work as specified with four modules in dual-channel mode.

Cheers, I hope to get a response from their support in the morn as well. I will also call their German Hotline, lets see what comes out of it. Never had this much trouble with any Mobo ever. And I probably built 4-5 systems from scratch.
