I wonder why real sim racers are never any good looking. I know it's not all about the looks, but damn! And I'm sure they'll have much wider audience then the niche market they target now. Imagine the graphics of NFS ProStreet or Dirt or Grid with sim controls, just joy...

yes, it's released - 1. March 2008
It's based on ISI engine (rFactor) and many online NASCAR leagues already switch from Papyrus NR2003 to ARCA...

Richard Burns Rally, GTR 1/2 and rFactor (particularly when modded) can look extremely realistic and easy on the eyes. What they lack is the glossy finish of special effects/post processing, but they more than make up for it in simulation and anyway their target audience typically turn off the extra details for more FPS.
I agree with you though. Just look at Gran Turismo, eternally boring (even to a sim enthusiast) but attracts a wider range of players.

Yeah, it's like all of them lack that amazing last touch of the better graphics. And they can't argue it's because those gamers don't have extreme systems. The real fanatics mostly have insane sim hardware, so they can afford the better CPU or the better GPU.

the game engine could be fun to play but that kind of sport ......
the game should have been called REDNECK arcade sim.
nobody in the rest of the world cares for nascar.

The only thing I liked about nascar games was driving in the wrong direction and causing a huge crash

EA Nascar games look arse and play even worse.
People who find these games boring should put down the arcade games, pick up a simulation and try them online against other real drivers. Try competing in a race with 20 other real people, where you have to setup your car for the best drive, watch your fuel, tyre wear, damage, strategically plan your pit stops, try and stay on the track without ruining your race or anybody else's all whilst trying to win. Well for me going around in circles just got a hell of a lot more interesting (and this is ignoring the fact that not all nascar circuits are ovals).
Now I'm no nascar fan by any means (in fact I've never watched a single race, and don't ever plan on it), but the people who come in these threads to tell us all how boring it is clearly haven't gotten further than an arcade game like EA Sports' and/or never tried it online where the experience changes drastically.

I agree. I'm not a fan of NASCAR either. Don't watch it or fallow the teams. Having said that, NASCAR sims can be a lot of fun. There is shit load of strategy behind these races, which can get quite fun, especially against other skilled players. Lame kids will always dis titles like this simply because there is no shoot button.

"Real" sims (for me there are only 3 at the moment: Gt (not gp) legends, rfactor and lfs s2) uses phisics in a much deeper way, which involves more cpu usage. I invite any GRID "pro" driver to take a drive with any LFS rear traction car . Despite of the graphics, I think it´s a deeper experience...but i´d like to see a step forward too. |
Did you read the post you quoted? I never said they don't offer better simulation experience than arcade racers, that's why they are called simulators , but they look UGLY. That's the problem.

He's suggesting the simulation portion of the game gets in the way of pretty visuals, whether that's because of performance constraints or development time/focus. He's also agreeing with you.... whilst I must reiterate that many of the modern simulators do not look ugly they just don't have that veneer of special effects or eye candy other lesser titles do.

I think GTR2 looks pretty damn good with everything enabled.....just wish it had the netcode and MP features that rFactor has.
Not really a NASCAR/stockcar fan but I did come to respect it years ago when I gave papy's NR2003 a go. It's a lot more deep and challenging then I had expected. The small tracks such as Dover can be pretty intense and brutal for the unexperienced.
I haven't really given this ARCA a go yet, but just a quick glance it looks like a glorified rFactor mod. They could have at least changed the hud up a bit.
But like I said, I haven't really gave it a good run to judge it too much
