yeah takes the piss. I understand it's the same fees people payed for AO (quite why is another matter), but it's still too much. Whilst it's hardly going to dent someones bank balance it's the principle of the matter. The prices without VAT should be the prices including VAT. It's a silly thing for it to put me off the game but it has..

10.34GBP is a 25% increase over all other mmos?

Well I guess they lost first competition stage against others MMOs in europe, since it's more expensive. (WoW and other games cost only 13 euros in EU, WITH VAT!)

I'm in the open and closed betas - the open is on an old version of the client with no DX10 so has poorer graphics.
This is one game where enabling DX10 (in the closed beta) actually improves the frame rate - the graphics fully maxed are good but not in the same league as LOTRO - too much pop in for starters.
FPS ranges from 30 - 60 normally and down to 20 in heavily populated areas with an 8800GT, E6600 and 4GB RAM.

From my understanding (im in closed beta as well) is that DX10 features are not implemented till release. Even though you can select it in the menu I dont think it really does anything. But yeah the games is great looking the character's (especially women toons) are freaking awsome looking. Everything looks different.

I played wow for about 2 years. Wow was wonderfull for what it was. AOC is totatly my cup of tea. Sexy women, plenty of violence beautifull landscapes. Combat is great because it forces you to focus in the moment unlique wow were you just click buttons & it's pretty much do something in RL while your toon is killing things. I will say that yeah it's not openned ended in the sense you can't go through the whole continent with no loading time. But I understand why they did it the way they did. For the sheer amount of detail to bring the world to life. Hope this helps a bit. I would write more but my gf is bugging me for supper.

Don't worry you are not the only one who thinks it doesn't look all that good. I played the game maxed out with 4x AA 8xAniso and wasn't impressed at all.

Phew, because I recently fixed my graphical issue and I still don't think it looks very good. I was quick to say it looked a bit better than LOTRO, but after having played a little further I have to say, I was wrong, it really doesn't look that good. I do feel the environment and I do like the overall design, but the graphics, I don't know, they feel bland and boring. But hey, maybe I'm just being picky, I'm not really a graphics whore, but I do feel that unlike before, graphics do matter more nowadays. At least when it comes to 3D games like this one.
One thing does look good in this game though, the character models.
I'm gonna try it when it's released as well, maybe it'll look a tad better then, who knows. We'll see. |
Graphics should be especially non essential in this game since it on many ways tries to counter what is currently on the MMO market. More twitch action, spells (heals) are cone targetted and can hit enemies, pvp based, "adult" content etc.

First review out for the game, in norwegian magazine called Gamereactor. (version: gold/beta)
Should be up on the web soon
Graphics: 9/10 Sound: 10/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Lasting Appeal: 9/10
Final Score: 9/10
+ : Intense fighting system, great atmosphere.
- : A bit advanced for new beginners, some shakey menus.

i never pay any attention to mmo magazine reviews they cant have played them all the way through probably not even 1/3 of the game and they give out final scores.
mmo's are always work in progresss anyway and can change massively over the first few months of release.
i wish they would only call them a preview and forgo any final score

Well dispite what SyN says, it's nothing even remotely like Vanguard, heck it's not even like Vanguard a month after launch.
The client is much more stable after yesterday's patch, even the Open beta one, and also the ones that whine about not enough going on, too linear and so on, well I guess you need to learn to read.
The first 20 levels of the game are linear, almost singleplayer, designed to put you into the story of the game, it has tons of singleplayer, instances and training for all the different skills and abilitee's
After level 20 the game opens up as a regular MMORPG, like WOW or so, with open worlds and such.
I preordered this game even though I was originally not interested in it, but after trying the beta, dispite it's crashes, I found that this game has a lot going for it, not least of which is an innovate combat system

Thats fine and dandy, guess we will see how much a powerhouse this game is after 20. I assume that you are in the actually beta test and you have tested these things, but for the open beta people, its nice to see the graphics, but if thats it, we will have to wait and make a decision on whether we wanna play or not.
