Anyone else find that the controls both on foot and in-car are pretty loose? It just feels so cumbersome to me.

the map is fine in terms of size/detail, no complaints there. plenty to see and do, and the scale seems about right. not far off gta:sa in terms of actual city areas i would say once you forget all the outlands and desert crap.

great game and all that blah blah, but it sure has been overtaken by its own hype..which of course suits rockstar, m$ and sony just fine |
+1
Only played 2 hours so far, as you say great game and all BUT i am a little dissapointed so far, controls on foot feel sloppy to me, i end up retracing steps as i am not under full control of nico!
Hopefully i'll get too grips with the controls, i do love the driving though, def an improvment over the old gta's

Excellent news, that's definitely next-gen.
Now someone, please, tell us about building available for exploring.

car crash sounds now sound REAL
flipping my car broke all the windows upon landing on the roof.
old cars the brake squeak (romans cars)
newer cars have GPS voice systems, different cars have different GPS voices and old cars dont have it at all.
The TV in Niko's room
jumping over open car doors

My little review from yesterdays playing:
* Physics.
One of the most awesome thing about the game. Car handling is so improved, it's NOTHING like the old GTA. How Niko walks, adapts to the surface, how people react when you punch/hit/shoot them. I love the physics engine
* Graphics.
The graphics are generally good, and seeing how detailed and big the game is, it's great. Characters are nicely detailed. Only drawback is some low-res textures, but i did expect that. Remember how big the game is people, you can't have high-res textures on everything. Some pop-ups, but they're not that much of a hassle, most of us are used to them anyway. I think only people who are very picky will find them very annoying.
* Sound.
Just great. The sound really brings the city to life, and the SFX are very good. From car crash sounds, to GPS voices, breaking things to voice actors.
* Details.
Here is where the game is unparalleled, NO GAME comes close to being as detailed as GTA IV. It feels like everything has been given a good amount of time to complete, from small things to buildings and large areas. Can't really explain it, you'll see! The city feels so much more alive because of this.
And thats all the technical stuff.
The gameplay/story is what makes GTA what it is. Sure, SR may be technically good (some agree, some don't - not the point) but so far no-one beats GTA in terms of storyline, immersion and ingenuity.
And im not that far in to the game, i've played for about 4 hrs so far, so my opinions about things MIGHT change, but im absolutely sure the game will be one of the best i've played in a long, long time.

nice review sin - my biggest gripe is the jerky camera when you turn or look around, really dunno why they've fucked that up so badly...other than that pretty good.

Here is my mini review, or even, just some thoughts:
* It seems easy to get a 6* rating, or maybe this can been seen as just more realistic - if i kill a few cops, its at 6*
* There doesnt seem to be a helicopter available on the island you start on - driving around the airport, while fun - doesn't help you. You get a 6* rating (after a while). If you drive infront of an airplane jet, you dont get blown away. If you drive infront of the wheels, sometimes you get pushed aside, sometimes it goes through you.
* The story seems better than the usual GTA games, I feel more engrossed with it - and it is generally a much better story.
* using your phone to make or recieve calls, you can always phoen your gf and go out on a date instead of helping your cousin.. if you do that, you will later have to pick him up from the hospital and he will bitch for a good few dialogues about how you put pussy infront of family. Apparently, this also works the other way around (i.e. your gf gets bitchy if you dont take her on a date, helping your cousin instead)... I guess the respect and admiration stats for each character change with the paths you take. However, it would seem like choosing one over the other does NOT mean you miss a mission - they've cleverly designed the dialogue so that you still do the same missions, just with different chit chat.
* the handling of the cars is a bit more difficult - however i would say that this will come with practise and certainly doesn't negate away from the fun of driving around in any way.
* I've already seen sunshine, moonlight and a fog storm.
* going to "bed" advances the day by 6 hours, however you do not need to return to your house in order to save the game - it autosaves after each mission. (apparently, fail a mission and you can restart it straight away via the phone).
* talking of the phone, it works really well and adds a interesting factor into the game ... driving along and want to go on a date, sure, phone your GF.
* there is ALOT of detail in the environment, i got stuck behind a fence for a while and behind it was a garden table and chairs - something you wouldn't have seen / noticed from the normal road.
* fighting is really hard - in an early mission you are called to beat up two people - i nearly died during this - it's important to block (A) and jump out the way (AA), as well as kick, punch and "special" your enemy.
* graphically, the game looks really good. I would say its better than saints row, however I dont think its THAT much better. To be honest, Saints Row was impressive visually, and I think in some ways it stole GTA4's biscuit.
* it's worth noting that graphical slowdowns are not that hindering, and the odd frame skip is not noticable usually. its much smoother than saints row.
* the sat nav is pretty cool, and in some cars it'll tell you to not only turn left, but turn left in XX yards. this cannot be changed to meters.
* there are no load times, appart from an initial 30-60 second load. going into buildings is as smooth as it could be.
Any questions? |
Theres an annilator helicopter on the island you start on airport right around the back. Smash the window and your in, flying seems way easier than GTA:SA Got rid of a 4 star wated level!!!!

Gervais was on one of the radio stations too. Not seen in the comedy club yet. You cant get rid of a 6 star wanted level, although I got the achievement of one man army for surviving one for ages!!
