Creature creator will be released in June and the free version will feature 25% of the Spore creature content while the retail version will have all creatures and parts. Smile

Woo! Very nice.

Sorry I worded it a bit wrong, ofcourse the retail game will include all content (Unless they cut some stuff out and put it back in as DLC addons.) but the creature editor itself will be available both as a free (And somewhat limited) "trial" and as a full retail version. Smile

When even Wil Wright makes fun of the number of expansions The Sims had(see his GDC 2008 video) you know it's bad.

It's an excessive strategy to release so many expansions - but some of them are not full expansions but merely additions to the game (noted by the term; stuff/pack). The expansions meanwhile add quite a lot of meaningful and enjoyable gameplay features, stuff that wasn't in the original.

The Sims is a different product with a different audience. I find it unlikely that they will be able to come up with the same numbers for Spore.

I would be ok with some expansions. Like ones that add more body parts or other such stuff that gives you more designing options. Another good one would be one that adds the underwater phase again and maybe expands it so you could have an entire underwater civilization.

The problem is, they could have added the stuff from the start. EA deliberately cuts stuff out, just so they could have yet another expansion. That's the problem.

If they make Spore mod friendly then expansion packs will be worthless. User made content tends to always be better because we the gamers know what we would like to see. So no worries about that.

User made content is not always better. Look at Oblivion, it has tons of mods, but are any of them really as good as Shivering Isles? Not really.

Some of the mods are fucking fantastic, really surpass anything Bathesda has released. They are the ones to make Oblivion so good. Vanilla Oblivion (with expansion or not) is so-so. With mods it's the best SP action RPG in years.

Your suggestions aren't particularly realistic. There will be 'stuff packs' perhaps (covering the aspects you've chosen), but they are very cheap additions to the games content, stuff you can live without. The expansions meanwhile (if there are any) will include new features and gameplay tweaks that will improve the game - and as such are welcomed.

So it's all good in the end.

I think adding expansion packs to games are good, as long as they are needed and add new, good elements to the original game.

I tend to agree with the majority that the sims 2 games have far to many expansions. they could have combined a few of the expansions into one expansion since all they introduce is new items, maybe a new career and maybe a new location(s)

Or like saying games teach children how to commit murder... We never hear that from certain organisations, do we?

Uhh wait...

Ofcourse there will be somebody complaining, since that is what we do nowadays, there is allways somebody to complain about something...
