whoa... to be honest, you would freak out like hell after the first 24 hours cos you never know, you may be in there for a few days, even die. It was lucky someone found him. didnt see him take a crap or a leak either, bet he had awful stomach cramps.

yeah, but i dont think id break into tears over it. maybe after a week or so and such. but he wasnt in there a full 2 days.
Dont get me wrong, must have been scary, but nothing worth acting like the guy did in the video.

Which brings me to another question? Why didnt he just pop open the roof hatch and climb his way up or down to a level with unblocked doors? thats what i would have done

Yeah man

it looks like he can get up on that rail and just push it open. i would have tired for hours if i had to...he mostly slept, tried the doors numerous times which was a dead end right off the bat. i mean, someone so helpless shouldnt be riding an elevator if they dont know what to do in an emergency

You lot are so quick to judge and you have absolutely no idea what he was going through. Its impossible to empathise with a situation like this unless you have been in the same, or a very similar one. Even prisoners in solitary confinement know someone is out there and they will have human contact however brief.

I reckon we would ALL be reduced to tears however macho you think yourself.

It's all about the psychology of survival. I was watching a documentary a while back. Two liferafts from a stricken ship were roped together. Both had the same number of men, equipped with the same rations and survival gear. One was led by the Captain and the other my the First mate.

Anyway the Firstmate had his head screwed on right and set up a routine, sorted out the food and water and kept the raft bailed out. The Captain didn't do a thing. His raft went to shit and the men suffered. When they were rescued the Captains liferafts men had to be carried up to the rescue vessel. Whereas the Firstmates crew were healthy and got in the ship that found them without a problem. If you give up then no question you will die.

I think the guy in the lift did pretty well. He tried to open the doors and eventually succeeded, but without result due to the fact that he was stuck between floors. He tried the ceiling of the lift and it seems it either didn't have a hatch or the hatch couldn't be opened. He kept himself relatively occupied by reading a note and either it was paper he played with or they were playing cards.

It's only when you convince that theres no hope, then you'll suffer even more. I think he kept up hope and got out on his own two feet, rather than going to ruin and have to be carried out alive or dead.

I don't take elevators unless I really have too. Had a panic attack before when I got stuck in one for some time.

Some lifts have two doors yes. But they're not much good when you're trapped between floors.
Having pot wouldn't do you any good either. I mean you'll be starving and that would drive you round the bend. Also the chances of getting sacked when they opened the doors is probably quite high.

It is accepted to think that regular people will die within 3-4 days of not drinking water. So you would not last that long.

I would have made every attempt to improve my situation early on, while I still had the energy. Then I would just sleep until something happened to change the situation, and act on it if appropriate.

I can sleep in almost any situation, so I would probably be ok. I expect he would have lasted about 4 days in that environment without water, given that his movement is minimal and it's probably an even temperature. The problem is in the last 12 hours he would suffer extreme pain combined with delirium as his body draws moisture away from his extremities to compensate for decreased plasma volume. So at that point he's pretty much helpless anyway.
