My desktop just turned off. At first I thought it was a power outage, but then I noticed everything is still on. So I went and tried to turn the PC on. It started for a second and shutdown again. Alright, I thought, I'd give it a few moments to relax. And from then on, when I turn the PC, power starts, all fans spin, but nothing happens. The onboard status leds show [--] (two minuses), which is not referenced in the manual... Is the CPU dead? Isn't the damn motherboard supposed to shut down the system in case of overheating?

Sounds like what happens when it overheats, happened to me once back ont he XP cpu's. your CPU has a "switch" that trips if it hits past a certain temp that will shut itself off but, you can't really rely on it. I would say put in another CPU to test it.

I'd say maybe a PSU problem. Or you could start taking off cards off of it, trying to isolate the problem.

Well, fixed it! Sorta... The PC is now caseless, on a small table lol. But WHO FUCKING QUAREZ when everything is working. I think the problem was dust that got in the case over the years was shorting a circuit.
