Yup same here played the tech and for the brief time I played there is alot that is familiar from other MMO's. But the familiar is the good stuff Smile I like how all the windows are adjustable like when your in windows. I like the combat in the sense you aren't just hitting your mouse button repeatedly. I mean I got to play for a whole 15 min of the test but I spent alot of time customizing my character which I must say was rough around the edges but alot of fun and custimization. Well it was a technical beta so I assume this will be a hell of a lot better then what was offered today. I'm not disapointed I'm not 100% blown away but I am definatly looking forward to seeing what else there is to offer in this game. 7.5/10 due to shortness and downtime.

I agree there were good things. Like I said, I am not saying it was a bad game at all. . . there just wasnt anything that blew me away. Will I still buy it and sign? Most likely. Main reason being, it is something new. I have tried pretty much every other MMO out there.
I will be getting Warhammer as well.
I just don't want people thinking this is going to eb the end all eb all of the MMo market because, it isn't.
The women models were kinda nice. And, the more mature adult theme was rather refreshing. they seemed to have captured the "grit" of the Conan universe rather well. And, like I said earlier, the graphics are good and the voice acting was TOP notch along with the sound track. Maybe I didn't have enough time with the combat to really see it shine. PVP may change things as well.
Not to mention I keep hearing players can have their own towns and such...? Or am I not rememebering correctly? If that is the case, then there definitely may be some things in the deeper game that will make it stand out. it definitely seems like it is a game to at least try because the things it does well. . . it really does them well.
Don't want anyone to think the game is no good from what isay. . . i just wasn't totally blown away by what I saw.
Then again, I was pretty pissed with the whole getting started thing too so thta may have had something to do with it.

Yeah I hear ya big_gun as it was technical as much as we expected the shit that happened today lol I guess we expected it to go smoother then it really was heh. Anyway I still have my pre-order going so that's a positive sign. I also agree that this game probably wont kill WOW but i'm pretty sure no MMO out there could kill WOW anytime soon. But i'm glad it wont kill it for the simple fact I dont want no pesky 12 year olds playing this game Smile Main reason I want to play this MMO is for it's mature theme and Conan universe it more my kind of place. Can't wait to be staring at my 3d toon's ass while killing shit hahah (female toon that is).

You are delusional if you think this game won't be riddled with kids and other immature people. The beta is already full of them. I really hope they just push this game back. It's not ready and it could be so good with just a few more months of work.

Don't know about UK, but statistics show that 86% of parents care about the age-rating here.

I've already come across a topless vendor with rather pert breasts and I think there was a swear word in a cutscene, so I guess it's going to be rated M or whatever

The noob area (1-20) gives the wrong impression of the game when you first start, gets better once you hit 20

Tech tests also give a bad impression because they're trying to stress the servers, lucky if you get to play for an hour..

Open beta (or at least some fileplanet shite) shouldn't be too far off now

Happy to answer questions that don't do my head in..

yeah don't rate a game from its technical beta lol. I hope tho, that Funcom doesn't repeat history as with AO and its early launch. On the other hand, AO is also a good point for FC. Seeing as in 6-7 years they made 3 Expansions , 1 or 2 Boosterpacks , and a shitload of patches and even are transforming the game to more up-to-date graphics. Why i mention this ? It shows that FC cares quite a bit about their games. (And i think it also proofs you dont need 10 milion players to be "lucrative" hehe

I too think they're releasing too soon. Not all the content planned is there, maybe like half of the zones only. With the time left, the most glaring bugs can hopefully squashed, but I expect after release patches flowing. Still is the question how did they manage to not implement everything seeing the number of years it took. This critic refers also to the other selling point: RvR and pvp.
A more structural problem concerns me: how fun is the game after lvl20? from beta leaks reports ive read, the zones are only placeholders for mobs to kill, much like free to play asian mmos. The grind factor might be the real let down, seeing the quests arent much developed in mid and end game, and the novelty of the combat system wearing out.
oh well we'll see.

Needs a lot of balancing work as well. The high level PVP is shit right now. Most classes are pointless. You just run AE groups and throw people to the sides, its stupid. The game has ridiculous amounts of potential, but as of right now, is going to fail. Unfortunately the game is months from when it should be released. One of those games you're gonna want to wait 6-8 months before buying at least, but lets hope some people DO buy it sooner rather than later so they have the funding to continue developing it.

I don't think that's true, at least not anymore, have seen no evidence of that so far. Not seen any missing zones either..

Main problems with this game recently are technical rather than the content, stuff that should be fixed before release. I'd defo say it's the best MMO i've played since wow came out, but would still only give it 8.5/10 atm. Is plenty of content in there unlike VG.

With how the servers work I'm not sure RvR is applicable? The PvP ruleset is still being worked on..

Game is more fun after 20, wish it started then..

Considering the major selling point of this game is supposed to be PvP, RvR, city-sieging and the like.. the fact that it's barely been implented a month before launch is frightening. Nevermind all the polish, tweaking and balancing it needs.

I fully expect them to announce that they will patch that stuff in later and all we will get is another standard-fare PvE MMO with some noob ganking that they call PvP.

delaying a game and making it more polished wont get rid of kiddies.... if anything it will bring more of them.

Except I don't give a flying rats ass about 'kiddies'. The more people who play the better. It means more money for the devs to do more work. I want the game to be polished for me, so I will enjoy it more.

...and the funniest thing is that it was supposed to be released a few months back (but since they werent happy with the _fighting_ it got pushed forward)..

Typical example of megalomania..

absolutely..I dont care much about melee combat..im gonna be ranger or caster..and those type of gameplay are still not polished.
besides this whole irritating buzz about combat, i'd like some smart journalist asks the producer :
"hey what about RVR and PVP? is it READY?"
response by the fat guy: "we are killing bugs it works fine. you know this period is crunch time. lets talk about combat..."

really piss me off they wont admit they're way late in their implementation of pvp , let alone rvr gameplay still seems on the blackboard.

you knows whats the current patches about?
working on ranged classes gameplay? no
working on adding zones content and quests? no
working on fleshing out rvr ? no
working on past lvl20 overall experience? no

they are currently removing invisible walls in the zones they originally put. they're finally aware that gamers will give a bad buzz if the game world detract exploration and free roaming.

in brief, 50% of the game planned will be shipped.

worse, im still going to buy it

Ah man wish I knew about the gamespot thing before today. I'm assuming it's too late to sign up at this point. If anyone gets into it and doesn't like I'd be more than happy to play instead of you. Yeah I know not gonna happen, but you gotta ask anyway.

don't worry there's thousands who didn't get a key, including me. it's lame how they gave keys out in phases, they made everyone hang around the forums waiting, waiting and waiting, refreshing a page. I noticed over the 3-4 hours I was there they loaded 3 different ad scripts that no script would pick up on.
really pissed me the fuck off, I hate gamespot now, they can go fuck themselves... unless ofcourse I get a key tomorrow then they'll be alright Razz

I had that problem, you have to log in with your unverified account, then you get the option to request an activation e-mail.
