please dont kill me for this question but should i delete my software firewall?? the router i have is dlink-4500 and use only firewall that router has?

I think you should have a full (software) antivirus-firewall solution (preferrably Kaspersky Internet Security)

ive only been using the firewall on my dgl-4300 since i bought it ages ago and ive had no problems.
i do have a virus scanner but it doesnt have a firewall, i dont bother with windows own firewall either.
my 14yr olds laptop doesnt have a firewall either and he never has any problems

not a good idea.
software firewalls generally are two-way, meaning they warn you of shiznit like the exe from the first ac release calling home to ubi, and also contain application blockers, which might be rather hindering in unskilled hands, but are pretty useful when you download loads of stuff with cracks/keygens from dubious sources (like public trackers).
most routers just have a very basic nat firewall that essentially will only hide your ports from the outside and filter out some of the most prominent attacks, and that's it.

lol ya - but if you are so stupid to open "doom4+keygen.exe" even a firewall wont help you...
and if you really are in need and have to use an "unsafe" origin for your software - well - use a damn antivirus software, or better send the file to an online scanner that uses several scan engines.
and even your "secure" sources could be not as secure as you think they are. evil software easily tricks your "secure" software firewall.
In 99,9 % the user sitting infront the monitor is the problem - a firewall wont help there. That`s just my experience.
So no - you don`t need a software firewall - more harm then good.

not really. an app blocker can be set to report every action, including getting shutdown privileges, file acces, control of other files/services, keyboard or monitor acces, and whatever. it does reduce user errors of the "executing doom4+keygen.exe" variety, and only takes a bit of effort to learn properly so you won't prevent your games from running, and a good firewall (like comodo, after they fixed the annoying "whatever was recently active tries to gain control of whatever is getting active now"-bug) will at least warn you that "windows operating system" trying to call internet is not a real program or your operating system, but rather something different trying to use windows' ability to allow it to call anonymously to the user, so you're likely to end up tricked way less than before.
as far as harm goes.. in the ten years or so that i'm using firewalls, i've had a single case of "harm", when my app blocker prevented some shitty korean mmo's rootkit cheat protection from properly running in the background, causing the whole game to crash with a bsod (great harm indeed, and in abso-fucking-lutely no way the mmo's fault).
regardless of the added security, a proper fw and app blocker do increase your control over and your awareness of the inner workings of your system, and that alone is worth the hassle of learning how to properly use them.
it's just like proper hard disk encryption.. it ain't that difficult, the benefits outweigh the detriments, and it's pretty much a must if you are downloading shitloads of illegal stuff.

if u download stupid shit use a software firewall, if your sensible and dont download "hackallyourpasswordsandstealyourcreditcards.exe" you will be fine
a GOOD AV will find 99% of the stuff suicide is going on about anyway

A -relevant- software firewall will prevent leaks from your PC. If you have any valuable data on your PC or local network, if you use tens of pirated OS, apps and games which will try to call home, if you have relatives who aren't particularly tech savvy, you will want one, those advocating not to use one would be certainly surprised of the connections coming from their PC. Use comodo and be rather safe than sorry.

good av w/o software firewall: fail.
dt tools pro adv patcher: reported by nearly every (and every good) av as a trojan, while in fact it's not, and works fine (other than creating one file in the wrong directory, that needs to be moved around).
