Whilst I was playing around with the settings of my laptop and cleaning up un-needed files; I decided to use the windows vista drive cleanup utility.

It came back with the results I could save 111GB's of space - but how is this possible seeing that I haven't even used 111GB's of space yet on the hard drive?

None the less I was curious to see what it did (curiosity killed the cat 'n' all). So I hit "OK" and then it started to do it's thing... it was taking some time so I thought I'd play with a windows game to make the time pass; yet to find nothing installed - it infact was deleting the entire C:\ without warning (including vital OS files).

Well if anyone can shed some light why the "windows drive clean-up tool" is this dangerous please advise! Smile

(Below is a screenshot before I hit "OK" - nothing was changed only blanked out the bits I don't want people to see and cut around the windows. It was only saved due to trying to transfer the image over msn to someone while drive cleanup was in motion...)

This machine was using Vista Ultimate with SP1 installed.

system restore can be quite the huge hog, you'll also want to try and find "temp" files from various programs especially if you did some burning. I know nero likes to save things to the HD before it burns and doesn't always delete them.

you can also try to find a program called evidence eliminator. Awesome program, cleans up a lot of shit from your computer you didn't know you had.

Lol, nice bug. It seems that it has put for you the whole OS under the "Per User Queued Windows Error Reporting" dumps thingy. Crying or Very sad
Never had troubles so far with the disk cleanup, will double check what it does from now. Wink

Have I got that bug too? Very Happy

Seriously though, the physical memory installed bug is something to do with running a modded BIOS and then applying SP1. If not, someone please enlighten us Smile

But Vista would take its 30mins of sweet time at startup to populate the ram with the cache and probably die and whine to the user because it doesnt have to enough to cache xD
And think about the typically stupid pagefile-size algorithm... its maximum size would probably be 128GB Laughing
