This women wants to die... but in France you cannot request your death like you can here in The Netherlands...

omg...

imagine this...

You look like that and have the worst pain in the world. But the gov don't want to give you some easy way out. Think she will just jump from some building.

I think it was a type of tumor, she is fighting for her right to die. I don't have the link.

why doesnt she just kill herself if she wants to die? its not like theres a lack of ways to do it, i would probably just run a nice warm bath and slit my wrists.

is there an estimate on how long she will live if action isnt taken? i can only imagine the tumour is still growing

It is most likely too hard for her to do so now. She has nurses and is in a home prob. Someone would have to draw the bath for her or such.

A case like this can be a good opportunity to amend the laws on assisted dying but as long as politicians afraid for their own future continue to be intimidated by bible-clutching fools, this issue won't get resolved. Especially since certain countries do provide a solution for the people who choose for it. Quite often people wishing to end their lives choose to go those countries because they are in too much pain to go through the whole court process.

Another issue is the question of medical ethics and the 'do no harm' business doctors have to swear to. But I am sure with a proper discussion and setting up of parameters for a person requesting help in dying the ethical concerns can be met. There should ofcourse be a clause for doctors to be able to refuse to assist their patient (due to religious/ethical/emotional grounds) but I am sure there are enough enlightened doctors who would agree to carry out the procedure.

Then there is the matter of life-insurance and I don't think (actually I'm pretty sure) insurance companies would pay-out in case of assisted dying. But on the other hand, health insurance companies would be all in favour of any such solution. Between those two groups of winners and losers I am sure they would be able to work out a complicated cash settlement. And most people don't have life insurance but they do have health insurance so I guess it would a net gain situation. Sounds strange but actuarial sciences are quite comfortable with the thought of treating human life as a complex sum of incomes and costs. Sad

And for people who wonder about why these people don't commit suicide, it's got to do with the stigma associated with the act. Besides it would involve family members in a police investigation. And not to mention that it would be quite messy and traumatic for them.

Assisted dying would offer a way for people to prepare for their own death and 'round off' their affairs and say their good-byes.

And why is this in the uv? There are a lot threads (in other sections) that belong here but putting this here gives people a permit to trivialise the issue or just post crap because they don't have anything better to do.

Well it is when you have a fricking tumor INSIDE of your head. And I don't think any of her family is jumping to help her because they are humans too you know.

The most simple way for her to end her live is to take allot strong painkillers.

I don't want to sound bitchy or something but this is the fault of those religion freaks. They think "god" made you so god needs to pick your time to go. I say big FUCK YOU to those fairy tail believers.

Did you know that the rate of suicide is higher in atheist society than in any other society with certain type of religion. I think that the fear has its hands in this: if you commit suicide you'll go to hell, or you'll reincarnate as blind man and such. In one hand it is a good thing (not that much suicides), but in the other hand, when you think that the majority of religion is constituted on some kind of fear makes you think...

I learned that in my sociology class. It's due to the fear that religion puts in them, as well as feeling of connection amongst certain group. If you look somewhere in the net I bet you'll find some statistics about it...

Poor woman, I think that they don't want to give her that right because, probably, someone could abuse that right... If it was me I would probably do it myself... I couldn't live like that, if you can call that life...

Euthanasia, yes it does. Theres nothing selfish about it at all.
To take a life that isn't threatening to you is what selfish is. Never heard of the Hippocratic oath.

If not I suggest you Wiki it. To take a life like that is completely wrong.
