It had something to do with the resolution I think.

Bought it from gamersgate, actually.. At first i was a bit dissapointed, but after spending more time with it i like it alot =)
The tech tree you saw in the demo, was the entire tech tree. Yep.. But you can level up any one of them to like 100 or something.
This game seems to be about huge empires, its about massing huge armies (there is no limit to the number of ships in a fleet...).
Basically, if you can accept there only being 6 different ship types + starbases (per race), its a spectacular game..
I just had about 30 scout fighters battle a couple of cruisers backed up with carriers.. But the fucker had put target jammers on his cruisers, so i couldnt hit him lol.. it was epic, i cant imagine what the game will be like when you have 1000 systems colonized and the funds to maintain and build a huge fleet of hundreds of ships..
I have to admit its pretty dissapointing to not be able to control the battles yourself. But for some fucked up reason, im fine with it :S
I dunno.. I should uninstall it just because of that reason lol, but its so damn cool..
Think of it as a 4x game, its not about telling each ship to move there or here, its about huge empires and huge fleets.
You give them an order to invade, they do it.
This is a game you play in windowed mode while running winamp, msn messenger, surfing the web etc. You cant sit in full-screen with it, because you'd be locked out from the rest of the world for a week lol.

I agree with Baleur, it's a surprisingly addictive little game. Due to planet development being pretty light on the micro management, it reminds me a bit of MOO. I also like the hands off combat. You can give general orders to the different ships in your fleet. You could for example tell your brawler patrol ships to stick together and use wolfpack tactics while your heavy hitter cruisers could be ordered to stay back and snipe at the most dangerous warships or electronic warfare ships, and finally tell your carriers to hang back and try to keep out of harms way. This bit reminds me a bit of the Dominions games, though you can't alter the actual formations.
2 really annoying things that I hope they will fix in a patch: It's an absolute fucking chore to find a good colonization target once your empire has grown a bit. Let's say I want a mining colony since I'm short on minerals. I then have to click through every damn system to find a good one to colonize. No list of explored systems, no resource overlay, no nothing. Considering a typical galaxy has something like 5000 systems and a typical empire probably will have hundreds of systems, this is a pretty big flaw.
The second thing is that the AI seems to be a bit retarded. It tends to declare war, then sit there doing nothing until you have come close/surpassed it in power. This in a situation where it has at most 1 or 2 combat ships. Also, the minor civs are fucking psychos, one turn they will give you a gift, the next turn they will make insane demands and park their fleet in orbit around some planet of yours. This could be ok if they actually did something and posed a challenge, but they just sit there, bringing no planet busters or marines. Dunno if their blockading actually hurts your economy, but in my experience it doesn't seem to. Anyway, the devs have said that the AI is top priority for patching, so this might change.
I still can't quit playing though, and with a few patches this game will be a real little gem in my opinion.

Right I found the answer, LE:I Is not the same as the "old" game and they removed the dragon's because they could not get the AI to work.
Thank god I didnt buy this shit, it was the only thing that made it stand out from all the other and better games.
