Letters From Iwo Jima - 10/10

Didn't watch this movie at the time of it's release cause I thought it was just another WW2 war movie, this movie isn't about war at all, this movie is unfolding with a war in the background, yes, but this movie is about the people that are in the war, this is a masterpiece from beginning to end, there are some scenes in this movie that we are not used to see in recent or old cinema. by the end when the they dig up the bag and let the letters fall into the ground, and we hear the voices of several soldiers in the background, I was deeply touched and my instant thought was, this is the perfect ending for a movie like this, and indeed it was the end, and it ended perfectly.

Rushmore....8/10

if you like 'Life Aquatic' this is written with the same 'weird is perfectly normal' humour, but it also has more conventional humour to back it up.....Really enjoyed it tbh........

just finished watching jumper now as well. im going to give it a 5.5/10 though.

it loses points for having thoroughly unlikable characters, except for that jamie bell guy, i like him, but everyone else can go to hell. Also i think the love crap was a bit much too, and i definately coulda done without it... and yes, anakin is annoying as fuck, and so was that dopey bitch as well..

on the positive side though, the concept of the movie was pretty good, and i hope they make a sequel - the visuals werent spectacular or anything, but they were subtle enough and used quite well, so its not distracting and enhances the film quite nicely. the action sequences were also handled well...

yeah not a great film, but one i definately dont regret seeing - i enjoyed it. i hope they make a sequel, and if they do, ill definately be looking forward too it. i just hope the scope is bigger, so the film doesnt feel so small and irrelivant like this one kinda did.

Trade - 8/10 For those who have already seen Bordertown, it brings more or less the same story and message but does it so much better.

The Hunting Party - 6/10 Pretty average. I wonder why IMDB puts this under the comedy genre, wasn't really much to laugh about.

Mirror Mask : 4/10 ... too much weird for my tastes
Enchanted : N/A ... i've seen only half an hour before falling asleep so i won't rate it (but i never re-try the experience)
The Mist : 7/10 ... not a cult, not a bad one, cgi and acting not excellent, a bit boring and maybe a bit too long, an interesting story and an unexpectable ending, in summary an enjoyable movie to see once
Feast : 5/10
Stargate The Ark Of Truth : 5/10
Battlestar Galactica Razor : 6/10

Can you compare it with another well known movie?

I like Sean Penn very much and seeing him directing a movie would be pretty interesting

It's based on a pretty well known book ... not sure if I can think of a similar movie...

this is the cover of the book, but there are "spoilers" so be warned ...
 Spoiler:

I saw it at the cinema when it came out in the fall, some parts are really sad, made me a little misty eyed Wink

Except the director specifically went out of his way to distance it from those two movies by making it more gritty and less fanciful. I think it was successful in that regard, and no less visually stunning for it.

8/10 from me.

I think comparing it to Fearless is more accurate.
