I guess you think [NR] in the title means "nanorobots" or "normandy region", right?

anyone noticed in the trailer how they said something like '6 highly respected directors' or something... if you go imdb the directors, for several of them this is their first directors job, and for the others they havent directed anything of note only one of them directed one of the animatrix vids... either way, we'll have to see i guess, although it does look great.
if only the runtime was longer, id say this was going to be far better than the actual upcoming film... sux theres no joker in it.. mark hamill ftw.
i will say that ONE of the sequences in this has an ugly animated style. the rest look ok, but im sure the one segment that doesnt look so great, wont bother me anyway, as im sure it'll have a cool story.
hope its better than the animatrix. animatrix was good, but didnt blow me away as half the segments werent anything special.

imdb doesn't really pay that close attention to (relatively) niche directors like japanese television anime or indian goat porn

im aware that the really obscure unwatched anime shows tend to get skipped by imdb, but i guess the point is that you can hardly make a statement about these directors being acomplished or respected when clearly none of them have done anything of note yet

come on, similar to the animatrix in format only... lets hope for something a bit more substantial visual and story wise, no?

finished.
id give it a 6.5/10
im sure lots of people will disagree with me as usual, but overall i felt a bit let down... its not that its bad, its because i was expecting too much i think... i expected it to be an epic collection of short films, that were important to the story and gave interesting insights and were vital or exciting stories to tell.
obviously one would compare this to the animatrix, and i really think the animatrix comes out quite solidly on top... each of those stories was worth telling, most of them were really interesting, great concepts and visually diverse and interesting to watch and think about... either in terms of the matrix concept, or by fleshing out the matrix backstory. There was definately some of that here, but never on the same level as the animatrix.
ultimately it just didnt do it for me... i really wanted to love this... just look at my posts above, i was hyped as hell - maybe thats the problem...
ideally, i think i would have preferred 3 solid stories stretched out to movie length, and really fleshed out..
below are no real spoilers, just simply what i thought of each story and its visual style... i dont give away any plot info.
Spoiler: |
1: have i got a story for you:
nice idea/concept
bad visual style
story was kinda dull
ending was cool
2: crossfire:
very nice visual style
quite dark/cinematic
characters annoying
story nothing special or important.
3: field test:
heeere we go, finally things pick up.
visually its quite nice... little bit less than the second
story is quite interesting, grabs you from the start and is interesting all the way through
4: in darkness dwells
visually not too appealing, its better than the first story though - at times its downright ugly though
awesome action, and a really cool story
over all, this is the best episode
5: working through pain:
visually its good, nothing spectacular
nice concept... i kinda enjoyed it, but it was very very slow.
6: deadshot
visually i think this was the best one - see the above screenshot, which is from this story
interesting, well paced, worthwhile story
felt pretty random though... like an unimportant story, that was told quite well so it was worth hearing, but doesnt really bring anything to the batman story.
|
in summary, id say i really liked 2 of the eps and thought they were fricken awesome (in darkness dwells was my favourite, followed by field test), thought 1 was really good (deadshot), and the rest were acceptable, but nothing special.
