W.T.F.

We have been planning this project for upgrading our security measures at our building; cameras, firewalls, security doors, etc. I went through 3 different contractors until I found the right guy. My boss was pissed off that the other two dragged their feet and was complaining about how long it was taking them to move forward with a quote.

Now that we settled on the guy I chose, he's been dragging his feet. I was out of the office Monday and Tuesday and all he had to do was call my guy and tell him to go forward. Now I get an email from the guy saying he has heard nothing from him.

I've been making excuses for two weeks now. It looks like I'm an idiot for taking so long and it is making me look bad, at least in the eyes of the contractor. What the fuck is taking so long???!!!!

You're forgetting the basic principle of office work: YOU are supposed to do your boss's work, not the other way round Smile

Bring an AK-47 to work and shoot the place up. That should make you feel better.

I would log all your emails about it and log the responce you get. Also you might have to get a bit more aggressive with the poeple under you to make sure the job is done. You also might want to switch some of your days of it is a big day just so you an be there. and stuff gets done.

Myfriend who works IT at a ISP is having the same problem. He finds a problem from a cx that he can't fix because he doesn't have access to do it so he writes off an email to the dept responsible and they read maybe 4 words of what he wrote and then they decide it isn't a issue. He is now keeping track of how many emails that this other tech group are dropping. Supervisors and now asking him why this is taking so soon and he was able to show the progress. THe supervisor now understands what he is dealing with and is calling the other supervisors or the group. It is helping a bit because now it is understood that he is doing his
job but the others are not.

He had mail server issues and some others ones.

I have had my share of bad bosses too. I had one that wouldn't let me leave my desk for lunch. I didn't eat a real lunch anyway so I just ended up working throught it plus overtime. Turns out my lunch was deducted anyway. In my performance review they actually calculated out the sq fottage of splace my desk used. Forget that non of my work ever was sent back wrong or that I had the least amout of backlog. Was always early and dressed nice.

One of my brokers after (I went way outta my way for him) gave me a gift cert to a fancy for 2 people @ restaurant downtown He compaired it to a bribe and and took it away from me. Later the broker asked how I enjoyed my meal and I said I wouldnt able to use it because it was a bribe. Turns out my bob used it instead for him and his wife. We know this because it was cashed at the restaurant . The broker did the insuracne for that restaurant so he ate there all the time.

Step 1, approach your boss in person and ask if there are any barriers you can help overcome to get this done.

step 2, let your boss know that the person is waiting and getting a little impatient and wants some form of update.

step 3, do log your written transactions as pistol said to do.

step 4, he's a boss they drag feet

step 5, let the contractor know you are awaiting your bosses approval and let him know you will keep in touch periodically until you know if it is a go or not.

Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted, but to weigh and consider.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

In all your remembering, remember that you have choices
