yeah it sucks man. Even now, when huge storage is dirt cheap almost, (you can get 500GB drives for less than $80 these days) I still can't afford some more Sad I remember when i got my 1GB HD all those years ago and thought it was the biggest we would ever need. Wow I was wrong

Im thinking of buying this ;

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128602

Anyone have one of these or like to give a comment? budget is tight really, my maximum amount was £50 so even this is breaking the balance but looks great for what i will need (some music, films storage and one or two games)

I have a seagate freeagent,but it's 750 Gb,not 320 Gb.
Works like a charm and i like it,comes with an autobackup software....my only complaint is the colour of the light. Anything else than orange would be nice. Razz

Not sure what you mean, you calculated how much data you got on your cds/dvd or you mean that you have cd/dvds on your hd that takes this much space?

No the CDs and DVDs are used for long term storage there is only so much room on a
hard drive.

I guess you meant network-attached storage (NAS)?
Try some free linux/freebsd NAS OSes if you have an old PC rusting somewhere:
http://www.freenas.org/
http://www.openfiler.com/
etc.

Did you ever sort something?

I'm looking at this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128483 as an ultra cheap solution (for sharing between laptop and PC) but obviously it's not a fully featured NAS system - though on the up-side it will obviously be very quiet, cheap, and I could always harvest the HDDrive if I need it.

(did a search, assumed this would be in the hardware zone Crying or Very sad )

Not sure whether I should get another external for HD movies (1TB WD Mybook or something) or just get a fourth internal SATA ...

I just got a 500GB WD external, don't get the USB ones lol. Good for archiving but not running stuff off of it (maybe music but that's it)

3 ThermalTake PSU (850 Watts), 2 IBM HDs (500Gig)...

Now Im just using WesterDigital HDs...

Hopefully my computer will last for a few years, which I doubt because of really crappy cheap programming now adays...he he...

On my gaming computer i have:
2x WesternDigital 250gb
Which is really all i need for music, iso's and gamefiles.

On my movie-rig i have:
Samsung 200gb
WD 500gb
2x Samsung 120gb (IDE! they really need to go)
And i just got, a week ago, my 1tb Samsung F1, very nice drive Smile

My problem is that i collect so much crap, like series that i've watched already etc. And of course im a big fan of HD so when a mini-series like band of brothers takes 50gb alone, well, you start craving bigger disks. Probably gonna make my current movies/HTPC-rig into a streaming HDD-server soonish and buy a proper HTPC.

Oh and yeah then i have a certain FTP in my closet of a dubious nature with about 6tb of storage, but that's not really MY storage. Sounds like a fucking vacuumcleaner Rolling Eyes

internals constantly run. Shortens life. external I back stuff up to then turn it off, that and I Can travel with it when needed. You also forget that PC hardware here in the states is dirt cheap.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136175

about 10 bucks more than an internal
