The russian patch works fine if you dont copy the english sound forge file. Granted, everyone's speaking Russian, but it works well enough to save all the citizens and scout all the viewpoints.

do they speak russian only in jerusalem or everywhere?
are there english subs?

Anyone else been running around in acre and the other places just fucking with shit?
Man the AI so bad, I can run up and gank a motherfucker right in front of 10 people and no one sees shit, yet when you do it in front of a guard they jump on your face the moment they see you with the blade.
So its OK the crowd dont have eyeballs?
The Thugs dont do shit either, sometimes if they see you they push you and start hitting, then other times I can smack the shit out of them with fists and they run and cower in the corner, what the hell? It's as if the crowd AI is randomized.

For anyone with the crashes,
I played AC with my 6600gt with forceware 77.xx or something with absolutely no crashes even after something like 5 hours. I then bought a 8800gt, installed the latest certified forceware, and have played it again for a long time with no crashes.
Both cases I've been running a resolution of 1024x768 (yeah yeah I know..), so maybe you should start comparing res. instead of driver versions. Or maybe I'm just lucky.
Also for anyone lacking performance,
in %appdata%\ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\Assassin.ini there's a very useful
[Performance]
MaxNumNPCs=...
That you can lower if your CPU is bottlenecking. It will however reset everytime you go into Options->Graphics.
