They claimed they won't do a open beta. They will open more spots for the closed one closer for the release though.

that doesnt make much sense.
most mmo players wont buy an mmo until until they have played in an open beta/trial so they know wether they will actually like it or not and they want to see how well the game runs on there computers.
even the mmos that havent had a real open beta made sure everyone who applied before a certain date got an invite even if it was only for the final week.
theres far to many bad mmos for people to blindly buy one even if it is hyped up and its also good for the devs to stress test there servers for rea,l simulations of load and traffic dont mean much

well i've pre ordered the collectors edition cause this game has alot going for it plus it's minus the 12 year old that you find in wow & other crap mmo's

Has anyone tried much ranged combat yet? I have been reading up and either want the Ranger with the combo ranged attacks or possibly an assassin with a mix of melee and ranged, depending on how each class functions.
I am hoping they didn't focus all their time on perfecting melee while ranged attacks get the shaft(no pun intended). But yeah, anyone tried the ranger class out and have any opinions on the on this class or ranged combat in general?

I'm just repeating what they said in an interview. They had no intention of a open beta because they said they'd get the testing they needed from the different BETA groups. With that said, who knows how many keys they dish out for the closed one in the end..might be as many that it won't be hard to get one?

Snop1050. The reason they wont do an open beta is because unlike most bad mmo's, they dont need to! The game is already in a much better state than most mmo's are in at LAUNCH!
Think World of Warcraft in terms of preformance and stability, thats how smooth and lagfree this game is.

Well i can't be a perfect judge of AoC since i am only a tech tester but i am also a warhammer beta tester and was in wow closed beta. Opposed to war conan wins by 2km in a 100m sprint.From my recollection of the wow closed beta though i remember it being as good as conan 2 months before release but with the technology of back then. AoC atm is the most innovative mmo you can find out there and pure eye candy.

hmm. I preordered Warhammer... I am starting to think that, perhaps, I should cancel that Preorder and preorder AOC instead. I plan on getting both of them eventually anyways.

Yeah this competition is still going on afaik .It's bit tacky if you ask me but i guess it's for the hardcore roleplayers.

Tbh m8 i don't want to turn ppl away from War since the developers had put a worthy effort in with some very good things in design (like the public quests ) it just looks and plays like something it should have come out 5 years ago. Imo cancel the preorder on that and wait until you see it at an open beta or trial before buying it. it might be your kind of game. I was looking more forward to war than aoc until i saw both of them so i urge people to somehow do the same.
