It seem pretty risky to break your console and hope that MS will fix it. What if the guy that gets it had a bad day?
When its flashed and/or when the seal is broken.

It sucks though trying to find a spot to leave that sticker when your done. I didn't want to put mine back on because i figured i would be upgrading the firmware again. I just left the sticker attached to my knife. The other day, i was down in the basement looking for some old discs and i noticed my knife was missing. I asked my GF about the knife, she says yeah i moved it. What did you do with the sticker on it. There was no sticker. FUCK!
Edit:
FYI a hair dryer on a high setting can very easily melt your console or at least the area where the power button is. My power button is no longer functional. I could use an x-acto knife to cut the piece of plastic out of the way but i don't want to slip and jam the knife into the PCB below it. Besides the only time it proves to be a pain is when a game happens to freeze, which has only happened once.

Just dump it in water
Nothing on the motherboard should be in working condition after that. And then send it back to MS

I have downloaded Rock Band songs the last 2 months. I have a 1st gen XBOX. I never play online... don't think i have evern went online with a disk in the tray. I have downloaded movies and demos and such as that. I unplug the network cable when I am not going online for something. Still not banned. i know its most likely coming. i could care less. Just posting my experience so far. If it comes, they will miss out on my Riock Band money and that's about it. i don't use it for much else.

Ive been playing scene releases on Live the past few days. Bad idea?

Been doing that the last 2 years without problems
I think it's some kind of lottery M$ is having for banning. I must say I would love to keep xbl but I would not care if I would get banned. The most thing I use is to download demo's to see if I should download the retail games.  |

just got round to replacing my banned core with an arcade 175 falcon chipset, i presume its ok to just swap HDD between banned and legit without flagging anything to MS and deciding to ban my new one AGAIN, lol - when i play scene releases on the banned one then play normal game but upload my gamerscore

I could'nt do this when I tried it. Once I connected to live and uploaded my GS the profile no longer worked on the banned one.

well i don't know whats wrong with both of you and your 360's
I got my arcade this morning, plugged in my HDD from banned console and logged into Live on the new arcade, it uploaded all the offline gamescore over the past 4 months that i had aquired. I then played some Halo3 and GOW from retail disc unlocked a few achievements on the new console, turned it off took off HDD and loaded up the banned 360, singed into my gamertag (offline as its banned) - all ok, played The Club from a verb and unlocked a couple of achievements then turned banned console off and took off HDD and put it back on new arcade console, auto logged into LIVE and it uploaded gamerscore for that game
as i thought it would.
Now the only thing i know that stops this is if MS has blacklisted your console ID for gamerscore saving and not for just general ban hammer for flashing and playing copies.
Anyway - happy as can play on both consoles now without worrying about achievements not working or corrupt profiles
