|
 |
The most recent article I found on a forum stated there were compatibilty issues with SATA DVD Writers and therefore it was better to buy an IDE DVD Writer. That article was dated from 2006. Has SATA DVD Writers improved since then or is it better to buy an IDE DVD Writer?

I have a Pioneer 212 DVD-RW SATA, never had any probs my end. But what kind of "compatibility" issues would that be?

Maybe when installing an OS, you'd have to install the SATA drivers before hand.

Hm...like I said, no problem here. But I like to keep my HW pretty up to date and on the high end side of things (yep, my e-penis is not that small)

theres a copy protection that doesn't really like SATA I forget which, I do believe The Witcher was one of the games that dislikes SATA drives.

I have used a few S-ATA DVD-writers since around 2005 (two Plextors, one DL Nec). When I had a IDE HDD I ran into a few read/write errors at first, something to do with the buffer I guess. But since I switched wholeheartedly to S-ATA, I never had any problems. As long as you have a mobo that supports it, you should not have any problems.
Do you know what kind of copy protection scheme that is, Psykez?

There is:
- Faster data transfer speed
- How swapping
- Tighter data integrity checks

one compatibility issue i know of is that most addon sata controller cards can't handle optical drives, only harddisks

That's the same with IDE actually, my IDE PCI card doesn't handle optical drives. Only HDs. Annoying.
