The most recent article I found on a forum stated there were compatibilty issues with SATA DVD Writers and therefore it was better to buy an IDE DVD Writer. That article was dated from 2006. Has SATA DVD Writers improved since then or is it better to buy an IDE DVD Writer?

Maybe when installing an OS, you'd have to install the SATA drivers before hand.

Hm...like I said, no problem here. But I like to keep my HW pretty up to date and on the high end side of things (yep, my e-penis is not that small)

I have used a few S-ATA DVD-writers since around 2005 (two Plextors, one DL Nec). When I had a IDE HDD I ran into a few read/write errors at first, something to do with the buffer I guess. But since I switched wholeheartedly to S-ATA, I never had any problems. As long as you have a mobo that supports it, you should not have any problems.

Do you know what kind of copy protection scheme that is, Psykez?

There is:

- Faster data transfer speed
- How swapping
- Tighter data integrity checks

Upcoming PC games 2009 and onwards

The game uses the TAGES copy protection system, which has been found to conflict with disc image drive emulators and react similarly to presence of SCSI and SATA drivers in the system, leading to a number of occasions where the copy protection system has prevented users from running legitimately purchased copies of the game.

These problems can be usually avoided by uninstalling the TAGES driver with the official installation program and then starting the game (which will automatically install the appropriate driver version).

That's the same with IDE actually, my IDE PCI card doesn't handle optical drives. Only HDs. Annoying.
