I just upgraded my dell dimension 2400 to get back into pc gaming or whatever is possible on it right now. I got a FX6200 PCI card w/ 256 megs on it. I am looking for strategy games that will run well at 1024 x 768. The last games I remember playing were AOE2, Caesar3, Sims, Zoo Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc. I see there are new versions of these games now. Will they all run on my machine.
Heres the specs;
Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz, 768MB PC2700 Ram, FX6200, onboard sound, Win XP Pro.
I would have spent some money to upgrade to a new pc but considering I rarely play on PC(I am a console gamer 4 life), I dont feel the need. I can browse the net, download stuff and watch movies quite satisfactorily!

pretty sure you can play the new versions of those games pretty ok. Some maxed out, some maybe medium-high.

Is this a p-take? that rig is what...4-5 years old. Most strat games nowadays will not run on that...well, they might but pretty lagy and choppy. As to why, the graphics even in these games have moved forward quite a bit. See my sig for probably the best strat game out there at the mo...or ever

the games he wants to play aren't that recent lol.
Age of empires 3 , the sims 2 ? , caesar 4 , rollercoaster tycoon 3 etc. They play just fine on that rig.
well ok probably mostly on medium, but thats good enough i guess.

786mb ram is not much. The Sims 2 can be a pretty big system hog in busy areas like in the city

my system can only go upto 1GB in Ram. It came with 256, and I added 512 more to run XP well. I think strategy might be a very broad word of what I play, its mostly tycoon kinda games and some city building games. Generally prefer games with less or no combat.

Yeah it should play fairly well, as long as you use xp not vista, i just built the system in my Sig, it's not the latest of everything and even though Intel as a slight advantage but for the money i stayed with AMD and it runs Vista great, i play Sims 2 and the most recent supreme commander forced alliance, a good site in case you didn't know is http://www.systemrequirementslab.com aka can you run it... happy gaming

My recommendation: GalCiv 2. It should run very decent on those specs and should be up your alley since you are into the strategy genre. As long as you don't mind the whole turn-based thing.
If you are RTS only I would recommend Sins of a Solar Empire, but not sure if that vid card could push those gfx enough to be playable.
I don't recommend any of the new versions of the games you listed because either (1) they suck or (2) they are unoptimized system hogs.
